Charles Krauthammer on liberal condescension

Here’s a riddle for you: When do you read a Krauthammer column that’s not good? When you read one that’s brilliant. What I like so much about this most recent column is the way in which Krauthammer zeroes in on the whole liberal mindset: the ordinary people are idiots and avowed liberals conservatives are evil. This mindset controls Obama’s approach to politics and affects his every decision — his contention that he’s not an ideologue notwithstanding.

What in heavens name ia an ankle dweller? CK uses it as if it a common expression, although even the Urban Dictionary, which has never failed me, says it has never been defined. If enlightened I will add it to the Urban Dictionary.
He may have been reaching for the term “cellar dweller”, fell short at “ankle biter” and came up with a winner
I think Krauthammer created the notion of an “ankle dweller” as a response to Charles Blow, noted liberal. Charles Krauthammer summarizes and quotes Blow as follows:
“New York Times columnist Charles Blow chided Obama for not understanding the necessity of speaking “in the plain words of plain folks,” because the people are “suspicious of complexity.” Counseled Blow: “The next time he gives a speech, someone should tap him on the ankle and say, ‘Mr. President, we’re down here.‘” “
Anybody want to know the science behind why people are suspicious of complexity? It’s a sort of offshoot of the Art of Propaganda.
I’m not suspicious of complexity. I’m suspicious of academics who cannot use language properly, therefore cannot explain complex matters in straightforward language. An academic who cannot communicate clearly in English is a retard.
I don’t care how many degrees the Wizard of Oz or Harvard gave them.
Charles Martel in #5:
> An academic who cannot communicate clearly in English is a retard.
Given another of Book’s recent posts, that line had me laughing out loud for at least ten seconds.
The thing I like the most about Charles Krauthammer is he’s just as incisive when speaking live (on the News Hour round table) as he is in print. A rare gift. Watching him verbally disassemble a liberal argument and disdainfully toss what’s left of its worthless pieces to the floor is a joy.

I get to laugh for 10 seconds, too, M. Devx.
A sterling example of what Krauthammer is talking about, from Salon:

And more thoughts on the subject, from WaPo. Read the comments. Liberal bile and contempt is on fulsome display:

They indeed despise conservatives and regard us as some lower breed. In Swift’s rich phrase, the most pernicious race of odious little vermin that nature ever suffered to crawl upon the earth. It is near to impossible to speak with the progressives or Stepford liberals on any equal basis. They regard their opponents categorically as invalid.
As Adlai illustrated liberal condescendion over a half century ago, it goes back a long time.
During his 1956 presidential campaign, a woman called out to
Adlai E Stevenson ‘Senator, you have the vote of every thinking person!’
Stevenson called back ‘That’s not enough, madam, we need a majority!’
Here is an example from a Christmas letter of liberal condescending/superiority from a family friend who, unlike me, never left the liberal camp.
We start the New Year with great hope that our President elect with his vast intelligence and a cadre of the best around him can pull the Country out of this abyss we find ourselves in.
It is time to ask the liberals: why can’t you come up with something original to say, instead of recycling something that is over a half century old? Liberals and condescending go together like white on rice.
