The Declaration of Arbroath:

In an interview with a Tea Party founding member, there is this quote on what to do with certain celebrity figures trying to associate themselves:

She, like many Tea Party members, resists the idea of a Tea Party leader — “there are a thousand leaders,” she says.

Glenn Beck? “He can be a Tea Partier, but it’s not like the movement bends to him.”

Sarah Palin? She will have to campaign on Tea Party ideas if she wants Tea Party support, Ms. Carender said, adding, “And if she were elected, she’d have to govern on those principles or be fired.”

That's the spirit! Robert the Bruce would have understood, since his supporters had the same opinion:
----Him, too, divine providence, his right of succession according to or laws and customs which we shall maintain to the death, and the due consent and assent of us all have made our Prince and King. To him, as to the man by whom salvation has been wrought unto our people, we are bound both by law and by his merits that our freedom may be still maintained, and by him, come what may, we mean to stand. Yet if he should give up what he has begun, and agree to make us or our kingdom subject to the King of England or the English, we should exert ourselves at once to drive him out as our enemy and a subverter of his own rights and ours, and make some other man who was well able to defend us our King; for, as long as but a hundred of us remain alive, never will we on any conditions be brought under English rule. It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom — for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself.---

My own comments. Grassroots is simply an extension of alpha leadership. We have gotten to the point where representatives don't truly represent or preserve the interests of their people. Because their people aren't theirs. And the politicians owe their survival and power more to lobbyists and special interests than anything else. On the other hand, many people and cities owe their survival to lobbyists, con men, Leftist welfare, and government benefits, so it's not like they need to pledge their power to their representative to get the goods.

Real alpha leadership is about taking care of your own people. Closest ideal form would be US military leaders in combat. It's why they don't become non-entities when veterans return to the economy. Those skills and temperaments are vital and also rare.

It's easy to become a Leftist goon and cultist and follow the dictates of the party line or megalomaniacal cultist leader, but that's because people don't have confidence in themselves. And they don't have that confidence because their leaders suck. Their leaders take the power of the people and use it to buy up luxuries for themselves and their friends, like Obama does, like Reid does, like Pelosi does. Instead of booting these leaders out, the people pretend they are slaves and thus need the government dole. They have convinced themselves that no better leader is available to them.

In reality, there are scores of real leaders in America. The Marines are not atypical in producing leadership qualities on an American standard. But people are scared of ditching their leader. They're scared of feeling powerless, because they haven't ever truly wielded their own power. They just go along with the flow, like good little sheep. And when physical threats appear, they go running to Mama.
Your post, Book, delineates this all important divide between real leaders, represented in real men, and weak arse followers, the enemies of real men. Only an insecure leader like Obama, who knows he can't protect everyone, starts thinking about cashing out on the people, sacrificing them to their enemies, in order to buy immunity. Only insecure people attack others because of their own fears and doubts, ala Islam.

Greetings:

If I may add, by way of tribute, my favorite Marine Corps (pronounced "core", not "corpse") anecdote of recent time.

A Marine Corps pilot was flying his F-18 fighter jet in southern Iraq, near the Iranian border. He was challenged by an Iranian air traffic controller for being in Iranian airspace. Knowing that he wasn't, the pilot ignored the first couple of challenges. The Islamically misguided Iranian then threatened to send up some Iranian fighter jets. At that point, the Marine pilot identified himself , his aircraft, and told the Iranian air traffic controller, "Send them up, I'll wait."

Dems/Leftists/MSM claim that:

Yeah, Americans can buy that! Sheesh!

Wolf Howling had a great post (it didn't win the week) on Salafist Islam, aka Wahhabism, the kind exported viciously world-wide by Saudi Arabia. It's a fantastic summary of the worst movement within Islam.

http://wolfhowling.blogspot.com/2010/02/within-past-week-homeland-security.html

This is the version of Islam we must aggressively be fighting against. (In addition to the theocracy in Iran). Wolf's key paragraph (but please read the whole thing) :

If most Americans knew the answers to those questions, it would tell us and the world that we are not at war with Islam, but that we are at war with the ideology ofSalafists. It would give standing and recognition to those Muslims who are fighting the overtaking of their religion by Salafits. Given the warning signs put out by MajorNidal Hassan prior to the Ft. Hood massacre, and given that he was a Salafist, it would likely have meant that the warning signs would have been heeded and the massacre aborted months before it occurred. It would place Salafism where it needs to be - in the full and direct light of the public, subject to the strongest force a democratic world can muster, public opinion. It is only that which will force a moderation of Salafi Islam. But if we can't answer those questions, than we can do nothing to "to protect both a generation of young Muslims and the rest of humanity from the disastrous consequences of this militant [Salafi] ideology."

No one in our government will identify Salafi Islam as the main ideological threat. Clinton didn't. Bush didn't. Obama, of course, won't. The Saudis have a completely free hand, and are using their oil revenues to aggressively - very aggressively - promote and take over every Islamic community around the world that they can, for Salafism. They're being very effective, and it's extraordinarily dangerous. This approach is succeeding very well within our own Muslim communities in America, as the other movements cannot compete against Saudi petro-dollars taking over the very definition of Islam within their communities.

And I think, because of oil and cowardice, we refuse to take the Saudis on. Well, they need our markets as much as we need their oil. We should, we must, take them on. I don't think you win by taking on all of Islam. But the Salafists/Wahhabanists, the worst of the jihadist movements, must be confronted, with every tool in our arsenal.
