Dems may not have votes, but they’ve got constitutional disregard down to an art

Perhaps it really is true that Pelosi doesn’t have the votes for Obama Care.  After all, if she did, why would the Democrats be considering the “Slaughter Option” something that involves bypassing votes altogether:

The Slaughter Solution is a plan by Rep. Louise Slaughter (D-NY), the Democratic chair of the powerful House Rules Committee and a key ally of Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), to get the health care legislation through the House without an actual vote on the Senate-passed health care bill.  You see, Democratic leaders currently lack the votes needed to pass the Senate health care bill through the House.  Under Slaughter’s scheme, Democratic leaders will overcome this problem by simply “deeming” the Senate bill passed in the House – without an actual vote by members of the House.

An article in this morning’s edition of National Journal’s CongressDaily breaks the story, starting with the headline: “SLAUGHTER PREPS RULE TO AVOID DIRECT VOTE ON SENATE BILL.”  Excerpts:

House Rules Chairwoman Louise Slaughter is prepping to help usher the healthcare overhaul through the House and potentially avoid a direct vote on the Senate overhaul bill, the chairwoman said Tuesday.

Slaughter is weighing preparing a rule that would consider the Senate bill passed once the House approves a corrections bill that would make changes to the Senate version.

I mean, really, the whole concept of democracy is so out-dated. Tyranny is faster, easier and so much more efficient.

Friends, I feel tired.  Really.  Fatigue is my dominant emotion at this moment.

In the face of this overwhelming barrage of lies, doublespeak (“A bill can be bipartisan without bipartisan votes”), inanities (““But we have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it….”), and corruption (think Cornhusker kickbacks, union deals, etc.), it’s hard to keep ones energy burning bright.  This whole thing has felt like death by a thousand, not cuts, ’cause this is bigger than cuts, but death by a thousands assaults each of which, alone, isn’t quite fatal.

This doesn’t mean I’m giving up.  I’m just whining a bit.  Pardon me — or feel free to chime in.

Slaughter was also the woman at the Health Summit who told the story about her constituent using her dead sister’s dentures. Has anyone bothered to confirm that unbelievable tall tale?

What I hear you saying is that this won’t just be the death of the Constitution, it’ll be “Slaughtered”…

They are indeed deserving of both enmity and contempt.

In a way, it would be nice symmetry:  didn’t properly pass in the Senate, and didn’t properly pass in the House.

If the bill was not passed, then it is not law.
Then ignoring the “law” would not even rise to the level of civil disobedience.

    Book says,
    > This doesn’t mean I’m giving up.  I’m just whining a bit.  Pardon me — or feel free to chime in.

I’m always glad to whine in!  Moan, complain, kvetch.  My pet peeve today is related to Pelosi’s Democrats, and the latest words that have issued forth from between Nancy Pelosi’s lips about them:

    > House and Senate leaders said they had reached agreement on the majority of the language in the new reconciliation bill. The leaders presented the outlines of the plan to House Democrats yesterday.  “The decisions are made, the choice has to be made” by lawmakers, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi told reporters.

Pelosi said: “The decisions are made”
What is this?   The Great And Powerful Oz Has Spoken?  The decisions are made… by whom?  God?  Mother Nature?  Fabio?  Who?  I love the way they phrase things, and it’s always significant, the way they phrase them.  No accountability there!  Of course, Mrs. Pelosi herself “made those decisions”, but she won’t say that.
“The decisions are made”, is nothing more than an appeal to inevitability; the game is over, go home, but mainly, SHUT UP! FALL IN LINE!  Like the good little drones that I command you to be!
I get so damned tired of them and the way they do this over and over.  “The science is settled.”  SHUT UP! FALL IN LINE!  Except the science wasn’t settled.  They keep projecting this aura of inevitability, and it keeps collapsing around them.  And the media keeps letting them get away with it.  Everything is “settled”, all decisions “have been made”.
I’m so tired of the avoidance of reality, of their attempts to issue words from between lying lips that state an “alternative reality” that simply isn’t true.  This health care non-bill that is going to be non-passed by the Slaughter non-vote…  it’s not reality yet.  And all the words from Pelosi, Obama, and Reid (“The Iraq War ***IS LOST***  – except it wasn’t) Reid… all their lying, avoidance-of-reality words won’t change reality one iota.
