Three stories out of England

England’s National Health Service is failing. Yes, everyone gets treatment, but it’s lousy treatment, so its women die faster than women in just about any other European country. Because the government is the only game in town, efficiency is nonexistent (no competition to stiffen bureaucratic spines) and women die.
The headlines about vanishing species are always big. The headlines about newly discovered species are always small. I mention this point to remind us — again — that scientists know so much less than they think they do.
And while I’m on the point of foolish scientists, the ash cloud that closed all those airports — well, it wasn’t an ash cloud, it was a whoops. A very, very expensive whoops from scientists who have their hands way too close to way too many economic triggers.

The Left seeks to create a technocracy and they justify it by saying that theocracies are dangerous.
This is the same exact argument the Communists and Fascists used. It was always the Communists/Fascists that were bad, so let’s go for Fascism/Communism as our heroic savior. Both are actually the same thing in the end.
Priests will be scientists instead of mullahs. It works great, if you are a ruling elite.

Wow! This is where and when the MAGNA CARTA was written!
Grim
Well, yes it is. You realize that when we speak of King John, we don’t ever apply a number — as we do with, say, Richard I or Elizabeth II? There’s a good reason for that.

But I never realized it was THAT King John, the Prince John of Robin Hood fame…

John Kerry? John Edwards? John Murtha?
You’re scaring me here, Grim. It looks like you are tapping into the Soul of Hades or something.

The NHS is failing. Big surprise. I have found in my battle with terminal cancer that you can depend on the kindness of strangers. So many doctors, nurses, techs have gone out of their way to help me it is almost unbelieveable. The amount of time, help and advice given to me (often unpaid because it was by phone and email) has strenghted my belief in America and basic goodness of most people. Depend on the kindness of bureaucrats (and employees of bureaucratic empires) and you are in for a rude awakening. Bureaucrats turn off their humanity and become cogs in a soulness machine based on “rules.” Even decent people find it hard to fight the “system” and break the rules because that is one of the few things that will cost you your job. Doing nothing, as long as there is a rule justifying kicking it up to a higher level or postponing or denying treatment is rewarded, not punished. This is the new health care paradigm coming to America. Read today’s WSJ article on physicians being bought out by hospitals or insurance companies. Your doctor won’t be focused on caring for you, he/she will be focused on following the “rules” of their employer (ultimately the govt). God help us, because the health care system won’t. Go to a VA hospital to see you future. Nice building, great mission statement on the entrance way wall (usually in brass), terrible care.
The Left will take from you everything and give you back an IOU.
Your birth and your death, all will be decreed and defined by the all mighty and righteous kings and queens, those Leftists born to rule.
I’m sorry, garyp, to learn that you’re fighting that battle. It’s nice to know, though, that the people in our health care system are on your side. You’re absolutely right, too, that bureaucracy kills the milk of human kindness. People begin to view themselves as cogs.
My thoughts and prayers are with you.
Book, I liked your post, and David Foster’s article he links us to in #1 explains the cause: Our liberal utopianists think they can control what cannot be controlled; our scientists (especially the global warming religionists!) think they understand and can control chaotic systems that cannot be understood at the detailed level they think they understand them.
And garyp’s story is heartbreaking and a chilling reminder of what awaits us if we let the Obama-ists put those sad and hopeless bureaucrats in charge of our lives. Yes, I called them sad and hopeless, with empathy, but the truth is they WILL harm us, and harm us terribly, so I don’t let my empathy for the bureaucrats go too far. Fire as many of them as you possibly can, if you want to save yourselves.

They won’t even let you survive. Your birth and death will be on their terms, not yours. The British person is simply a cog, not somebody that can self-determine their own faith. The British elites won’t let you have the tools you need.
You will be kept in the dark, like a mushroom. And fed shat, lke a mushroom. Watch for the end, when they say “peaceful” solutions.
