On my way home from many places, I see a car parked whose back end is covered with your typical lefty bumperstickers. One in particular has been bugging me lately. It says “Just say No to Theocracy.” I’m dying to know this person’s definition of “theocracy.” I have a feeling that to this person it means “opposition to abortion.”
Every time the woman in this video droned a response to the man, it reminded me of the discussion in “1984″ where Orwell describes Newspeak, the deliberately denatured, debased language of the Party. Orwell wrote that the Party’s goal was to create speech that originated in the larynx, not the brain, so that the orthodox could spew the party line automatically, bypassing conscious thought entirely. (One of Newspeak’s highest compliments for a Party member who could quack the current orthodoxy on demand was “duckspeaker.)
