The Gray Lady’s decline

Looking for something to read this morning?  I highly recommend Ed Driscoll’s neat little review of William McGowan’s Gray Lady Down: What the Decline and Fall of the New York Times Means for America.  And after you’ve read Ed, you should probably get a copy of McGowan’s book.

By the way, I know that the Gray Lady has long been a paper in moral decline — witness the Duranty years.  Nevertheless, if it’s possible to get lower than a snake’s belly, the Gray Lady has done it, and with a certain dramatic panache too.  At least it used to be immoral with class.  Now it’s just a sneery, dreary, dishonest little rag.
