Endless day open thread

I was going to write a gorgeous post about the Battle of Midway celebration.  Indeed, I was able to write the first two paragraphs, before my day went wildly off the tracks.

Some of the activities were delightful (dim sum with my family and my wonderful in-laws, and a lengthy and enjoyable Tea Tasting in Chinatown); and some were and are not so delightful (dealing with my aged mother who is suffering badly from the effects of a 50 year long prescription drug addiction, finally getting to a legal project that this busy weekend precluding my doing earlier).  I’m happy from the good fun I had this weekend, but tired and grumpy right now, and really disinclined to write a big legal brief.  Bleh!

I promise I’ll write about the Midway evening soon.  It was too special an event not to share with you guys.

Until then, there’s an Open Thread, because I’m hoping some of you (late though it is back East), have a little more time to write than I do.

Watched a hockey game.  NHL final.  Why are they still playing in June?  The Vancouver Canucks (I can remember when it was rude to refer to a Canadian as a Canuck), and the Boston Bruins.  I hate the Boston Bruins.

But, here’s the thing: I can’t name two of them.  I just hate them.  I hate them because the Bruins were such goddam thugs and dirty players 40 years ago, in the heyday of Phil Esposito, Ken Green, Wayne Cashman, Ken Hodge, and all that gang.  Real rotters.  Thugs, one and all.  Here it is, forty years later, the current crop could – for all I know – all be candidates for sainthood, and I hate them anyway.  I don’t know a single Canuck, either, but I’m rooting – insofar as I root – for them to beat Boston.  If they can beat them badly, embarrass, humiliate, and grind them into the ice – fine.

Of such things are fans made, I guess.  Though I don’t actually seem to be one.  Maybe I’m an anti-fan, and simply am for whoever’s playing Boston to beat their ears in.
