A few days ago, I jumped the gun. Today, however, really is the Marine Corps’ birthday. Happy Birthday, Marines!!

This week, as we look through the woods that grow sparser with each fall day to our back door neighbor, we can see his USMC flag proudly flying. Wounded Iraq veteran. He and his wife have bought our house. We will enjoy thinking of them living here.
I frequently associated with Marines, in one role or another, most of my professional career. Individually, and out of uniform, they may be ordinary; collectively, or impeccably attired in Marine Green, they are something else again. A unique organization that has held steadfastly to its principles, as the society around it has changed. Glad they are ours.
