Having been taught this story as a Christian, I have always wondered why we didn't still mark the miracle. As I understood it, the reason I don't celebrate the traditional Jewish holidays that commemorate events I believe in (like passover) is because I also believe Jesus Christ came and fulfilled their meaning or purpose. But I never understood why we didn't celebrate this miracle. As the author ties it's meaning back to the temple it makes more sense to me, and the story I was taught has more meaning as well. What a beautiful holiday. I hope you have a wonderful Hanukkah.

I really hate it when a moonbat/moonbeam hijacks the holiday.

Speaking at the Capitol Menorah Lighting this morning, the Democratic governor cast the eight-day Jewish holiday, which begins tomorrow, as a good time to reflect on “the whole idea that we’re running out of oil so we need a miracle.”
Today’s miracle, he said, “is not to find more oil, but to utilize the sun.”
