One of those joyfully unexpected moments that pops up on the “Got Talent” shows *UPATED*

A Susan Boyle-esque surprise on Britain’s Got Talent.  Simon Cowell divided his feelings between head and heart.  His head’s right, but I’m glad he followed his heart:

    Future opera star? Hope their voices translate well to other styles. It’s always great to see a success come from shows that often include humiliation.

    I should track this down. Although I just found the video and shared it today, it’s three years old, so the kid should have a history now.

    The video was dated this month, wasn’t it? And so is the article about the nervous breakdown, saying he had it BEFORE he went on stage. Or am I reading these posts all wrong???

    You know what watching Simon’s sarcasm actually does for me? It gives me hope in humanity. Which is funny because I drop down to 0 hope when I see American politicians, politics, and Obama in particular.

    If human beings can take the pain of humiliation on this Grand a Social scale simply to follow their dreams, then they might be worth something. And that something may even be worth killing and dying for.

    Which is saying something.

    One of the first things I was told by my original H2H instructors was that “you don’t know who has what on the streets or what they can do”.

    Judging people by the cover? If I did that, that’s like playing Russian roulette with 3 out of every 6 chambers locked and loaded with a rpg.

    I don’t “look deep” because I need “sensitivity” or I want to be “polite”. I look “deep” because it is a survival imperative. More people have died on the streets when they couldn’t figure out who they were messing with than living people you will ever meet in life.

    One of the reasons (many reasons) why I like to read Japanese VNs on the pc is because you can always find at least one situation like this on a Japanese VN. Positive, but not embarassing. Funny though if embarassing but not painfully embarassing. And that’s the kind of thing you know the audience expected right before they heard the song.

    There are better ways to tweak human nature than that. Far better. Did you see the look on their faces in the audience? They were breathing out heavily and twiddling with their jewelry and looking with eyes and cheeks downcast. That’s called artificially depressing an audience’s morale so that their morale hits sky high later. The difference creates a dramatic tension in the mob or group. But a real killer in emotional manipulation is where one doesn’t even need the “down tick” on the morale. Because the increase in morale is so so so high. Now that’s skill.

     If you ask me, I think Simon’s putting on an act. He has to have heard these people in audition. He knew how good they were or at least that they didn’t suck. So he intentionally lowers people’s morale and makes them expect a car crash. But, like I said, it’s totally necessary. Real skill with emotional manipulation does not need to depress an audience’s feelings to give them joy and unsurpassed euphoria.

    Also, I recognize that song duo they did. I first heard it in the animated movie Camelot. Really good female character/protagonist. And I think Celine Dion sung that particular performance. With Andrea Bocellini as the duo partner.

     I like the song. They did it justice. In a democracy though, people better learn, and quickly, what emotional manipulation is and develop resistance to it. Otherwise, you will need a welcome for the totalitarian dictator around the corner there.
