Differing views of what type of behavior a role model should be modeling

Tim Tebow: star athlete, missionary, works with children, model for abstinence and respect. All around good guy. Gets flak — yes, flak — for his suggestion that athletes, because America’s youth so admires them, should behave well (i.e., stop drinking, drugging, whoring, and trash-talking):

He has also stirred controversy by criticising stars of every sport for not setting a positive example to young fans.

‘Last time I said it, I got a lot of flak for it, but I don’t care. There are a lot of role models. There just aren’t a lot of good ones,’ he said.

‘To me, that’s so frustrating because you have in today’s society so many famous athletes in baseball and basketball and football and golf, every sport there is,’ he said.

‘If we come together to be great role models it would be amazing to see how the next generation turns out.’

Michelle Obama also thinks that athletes should be role models — not by behaving well, but by sticking to a diet that Ms. Obama, a famous trencher-woman, herself eschews:

America’s newest Olympics gymnastics star Gabby Douglas got scolded Monday night by first lady Michelle Obama for eating a celebratory Egg McMuffin at McDonald’s after the competition was over.

[snip]

JAY LENO, HOST: You trained your whole life, you win. How did you celebrate? What did you do?

GABBY DOUGLAS: We didn’t have time to celebrate. It was team finals and had to turn the page all-around finals and event finals after that. But, after the competition, I splurged on an Egg McMuffin at McDonald’s.

LENO: Egg McMuffin.

[Laughter]

MICHELLE OBAMA: Yeah, Gabby, we don’t, don’t encourage him. [Laughter] I’m sure it was on…

DOUGLAS: A salad.

OBAMA: a whole wheat McMuffin.

LENO: It was on a whole wheat bun.

OBAMA: Yeah.

LENO: So an Egg McMuffin. Very good.

[Light laughter]

OBAMA: You’re setting me back, Gabby.

DOUGLAS: Sorry.

OBAMA: It’s so hard.

Yes, Mrs. Obama was joking, but she could have joked that everyone is “deserves a break today,” thereby avoiding hypocrisy, given her own dietary habits and promoting a successful capitalist enterprise.  But noooo, even as a joke, she went into Food Police mode.

I do not like these Obama people.  Their values and their hypocrisy offend me.
