If memory serves, the office of the President of the United States is something that was created by and derives its legitimacy from Article II of the US Constitution. Without the Constitution, the President of the United States is is no more meaningful than the Baron of San Jose, the Earl of Las Vegas, the Duke of Ft. Lauderdale, or His Grace the Supreme Janitor of the Mississippi Valley. If this so-called President of the United States thinks he can ignore one part of the Constitution while still claiming power under a different part of a “living document,” I will dispatch the Fuzzy Pink Bunny of Cleveland to repo the jet and the teleprompter, and the Undersecretary of Narnia to lecture him sternly and give him a wedgie from Hell.

Joshua Boston, the former Marine who sent an open letter to Senator Dianne Feinstein slamming her gun control proposal, appeared on CNN Tuesday to face a rather muted Piers Morgan. Boston believes that more guns, not more gun legislation, are the answer and Morgan pressed him on his logic, asking, “Where does that lead America, other than utter, Wild West hell?”

The left is in triumphalist mode at the moment, drunk on the 2012 election. But I concur with Krauthammer tonight, – if the left tries to confiscate weapons, they will face an armed insurrection.

I would add that the only thing that prevents us from true armed insurrection at the moment is respect for the rule of law. But the more that rule of law is contravened, the closer indeed do we come to a real insurrection. The fuse will be lit when a group of normal, everyday citizens stand armed in the public square, prepared to engage in civil disobedience and to accept the consequences. It took one person to ignite the Arab Spring. I honestly think that it will take nothing more than for this President to overreach and some brave souls to take a stand with their lives to ignite something similar in the U.S.

I don’t think this President – or most on the left, for that matter – are that stupid. The President can neither override the Constitution nor alter federal law by executive order. To the extend he has succeeded in doing so in the last term, it was only because the House did nothing to take a stand on the issue. But if he tries that with guns, I would expect Texas and a few other states to immediately make it an issue – and talk of secession to become a bit more serious.
