When I first saw the news yesterday, I called my husband and said "Chris Kyle has been murdered," and his response was a quiet "oh my gosh." He didn't ask who. We travel to my home in TN a couple of times a year, and for a LONG time now, I've read to him as he drives. We read his book on a trip in May of last year, and felt as if we knew him when we finished it. We also watched him on 'Stars Earn Stripes.' He seemed to be a wonderful man, and my heart breaks for his family.
Added to that, both Vinny and Danny have given me more to worry about. I am just glad that my father, a Pearl Harbor vet, is not alive to see what this once great nation has become.

All throughout history, war has been the rule, not the exception. We Americans will discover this, as Pax Americana draws to its end. Our past 70 years of relative peace has been merely a hiccup in history.
I had dinner recently with an old friend. He is a closet conservative. His spouse is a classic flaming Lefty. Of course, our dinner conversation devolved into politics, particularly the issue of gun violence. What struck me during our conversation was how her world view was based on an idealized dream.
"I refuse to live in fear", she kept saying...despite that their relative wealth assured them that they were living in one of the safest areas of the Twin Cities. Other people, of course, are not so lucky. My response is that I try to accept and adapt to the world as it is, not as I wish it would be.
That being said, I believe that I detected in her a realization that her idealized world view was less and less tenable and that reality was beginning to puncture her bubble. All of us at the table agreed, war...a big war...was coming.
