Guns being Bad and gun-free zones being Good, the “Department of Public Safety” at the University of Colorado Springs has some advice for its students as to how they might protect themselves.

Be realistic about your ability to protect yourself.
Your instinct may be to scream, go ahead! It may startle your attacker and give you an opportunity to run away.
Kick off your shoes if you have time and can’t run in them.
Don’t take time to look back; just get away.
If your life is in danger, passive resistance may be your best defense.
Tell your attacker that you have a disease or are menstruating.
Vomiting or urinating may also convince the attacker to leave you alone.
Yelling, hitting or biting may give you a chance to escape, do it!
Understand that some actions on your part might lead to more harm.
Remember, every emergency situation is different. Only you can decide which action is most appropriate.

One of my extremely naive and gullible left-wing facebook friends posted two nonsensical memes on their timelins. One is supposedly a quote from Bill Clinton claiming that half of all mass shootings have happened in the US since 2005--and what happened in 2005? The "assault weapons" ban lapsed. The other meme she posted is something about San Francisco having a minimum wage of $10.XX, and having a lower unemployment rate than the rest of California, so higher minimum wage therefore is a job creator.

The common sense person in me does a face palm from reading this. The conservative in me wants to argue it. The lazy part of me has had me do nothing in response...

But this is what informs the low-information voter out there! Sigh...

He's an attention junkie, and the Jurassic Press is only too happy to give him his fix. They do that by putting the spotlight on him whenever he goes into RINO... er, "maverick" mode. Useful idiot. Ring the bell, and he salivates. Only GOP prez nominee ever that I couldn't hold my nose tight enough to vote for. People argue whether he leans left or leans right, but this misses the point: it depends on whether the cameras are pointed to his left or right.

It is a good demonstration of why long-term Republican Senators should never be presidential candidates - their entire careers are based on compromising across the aisles and assuaging the feelings of their opponents and the Democrat/Progressive sycophant media. They are more concerned about their public image as "statesmen" than in being effective.
On the other side of the aisle, it's a completely different story: the concept of "statesman" doesn't compute. For Democrat senators, replace "statesman" with "demagogue"). Witness Kerry, Obama, Gore, Edwards, Clinton...
On our side...Senator Robert Dole, Senator John McCain...need I say more.
My only hope is that we can get Marco Rubio and Rand Paul involved in presidential campaigns before they, too, are polluted by Senate mores.

I love open threads!

In this open thread comment, I would like to offer some words of advice to Sen. John McCain, supposedly a Republican, occasionally a conservative (on those rare occasions when he feels like it), definitely from Arizona.

John,
You are out there all the time these days on the mainstream media news shows, constantly indicating that you think Hagel is going to be confirmed, and you have no patience with Republican or conservative efforts to stop the nomination. Your fellow Republicans have deep concerns about this idiot Hagel, who is also a vicious anti-Semite.

You keep propping up his nomination with your statements. You keep offering support and cover on the right. Why are you doing this? Why are you undercutting your fellow conservatives?

More importantly: Why don't you just SHUT THE F*$CK UP? If you're not going to join in with conservative attempts to stop this terrible nomination, why can't you just stay silent and simply let the Democrats take all the heat? Offer no support whatever, please! What in the hell are you up to?
