One of the benefits of the training instruction I got was that it was very hard to use lethal force unless you were committed. All the fooling around business with people thinking of punching out the other guy and chest thumping him, goes away. It has to go away. Because you can't just pull a trigger and someone's brain blows up, you have to actually activate your muscles and maintain the neural command to keep smashing that head into the ground and rupturing it with like say a leg muscle stomp, that it is hard to do it 'unintentionally", although not impossible.

Thus everyone began to realize that unless they were truly certain and truly under a threat, merely putting their hands on someone else can get them killed, or a vice a versa. Which motivated many of us to find ways to avoid the threat, rather than confront it. We can give verbal warnings in air, we can wait for the enemy to come close, and we don't need to pull the trigger, because as one becomes more competent, it becomes less a case of worrying about getting killed and more a case of worrying about accidentally killing someone that didn't need killing.

I had a feeling from day one that it was murder, although I suspect it was unpremeditated. I mean, I know South Africa is one of the most dangerous places in the world, but whether he said he woke up scared (Story 1) or that he heard a noise in the bathroom (Story 2), neither made sense. Only someone with a screw loose or murder on his mind would shoot that blindly.

Actually, shooting through a door is going to make it hard to prove imminent threat as there is a door between you and the "threat". Now if they shoot through the door, then you got an argument but you'd better be able to convince a jury you knew the person on the other side was the threat. And say, not someone held in front of the assailant.

I remember a case a few years back. Guy heard someone breaking in his house. He shot through the door. Turns out it was cops, violating the warrant as it wasn't no-knock, but still a detective was killed. They guy is doing a long prison term. in Virginia, i believe.

Leaving Biden (please), what about Pistorius?

Given the crime situation in S. Africa, the original story (Valentine's Day surprise gone wrong) made sense to me......

Now, it sounds REALLY suspicious. Sleeping together in same bed, he wakes up and goes out on the balcony. Sees the bathroom window ajar and hears something inside, is immediately suspicious of a break-in and goes back in the bedroom and shoots through the closed door.

Somehow, that sounds less plausible than the argument, fight, cricket-bat beating, retreat to bathroom, and murder in a rage by shooting through the door.

Once the autopsy is in, we'll have more to go on....if she was beaten with a cricket bat, it's going to be VERY hard for him to sell his story, don't you think?

Very sad.

I've been letting Joe Biden's comments to the lady sink in. It's one thing that he could be so wrong - but we're used to THAT.

What has finally struck me is, have you noticed how condescending he is to her? It's like he's Grand Pa, hoisting little eight year old Emily up into his lap, to patiently and slowly explain to her why the sky is blue.

Condescending.
