They’ve been participants at the Edinburgh Military Tattoo the last couple of years, too – which is unusual: generally you don’t get asked back in consecutive years. Find those performances on Youtube, if interested.

Just imagine the amount and intensity of training these men must have gone through to pull this off.

“But you never hear about mass shootings in this country”

I’m afraid there was a case recently where a guy brought a rifle and started firing at some of his colleagues in a wood-processing factory. He killed two and severely wounded seven. It appears as if this shooter wasn’t firing wildly and shooting at anything and everyone, but that he was actually aiming at specific victims. So, not sure what this incident was exactly… but does sound somewhat more like multiple (attempted) murders in a semi-public place than like an average spree killing.

The incident has raised questions and debate about gun ownership and culture in Switzerland, apparently… but I’m not sure what will change. When polled, in 2011 the Swiss rejected thougher legislation on firearms. I hope for their good they hang onto that point of view.

Yes, absolutely amazing. No wonder the Pope, since many centuries, recruits his guards from this country with it´s great military traditions. Most men are organized in home defence, they are all equipped with weapons. But you never hear about mass shootings in this country . The Swiss are also the envy of many European citizens because of their direct democracy, they actually vote on important issues in the squares like in ancient Greece. Of course a country like this stays out of the EU and the Euro. They do very well in that fort in the Alps.
