My husband absolutely detests movies in which the actors burst into singing and dancing, but I can’t get enough of them. I love the flash-mob musical numbers, too. And in fact nothing makes me happier than being in a crowd that will do this spontaneously in real life.
In high school, my piano teacher and her husband were in a church choir. Most Wednesday nights after choir practice they’d repair to a local restaurant for snacks or drinks. One night, a patron obviously was celebrating his birthday, so the whole choir group burst into “Happy Birthday” to the tune of the Hallelujah Chorus. I only heard about it afterward, but I can’t imagine anything more enchanting. If you spend enough time around people who habitually make their own music, you’ll sometimes get in the middle of something like this. It’s my notion of what Heaven will be like.
