You Thought Maybe “Banana Republic” Was A Bit Over The Top? Updated.

THINK AGAIN.

I was taught that the Bill of Rights applied across the board – that no exceptions would be allowed.  My brother sent me this story, and commented “I hardly recognize my country anymore”.

Amendment IV, U.S. Constitution:
The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

The Sarasota police went to an apartment complex where a child rapist was reported to be hiding – get that…an apartment complex.  The first thing that operating room scrub nurse Louise Goldsberry knew about what was coming was a “man in a hunting vest” outside her kitchen window, pointing a gun at her, and the red laser dot on her face.

It’s only good fortune that no one is dead, and it’s the most infuriating thing I’ve experienced today to read what these would-be Rambos did, and then the officer’s defensive statements attempting to place the blame for what went down on the citizen.  Read the whole sick story.

I have always been supportive of law enforcement, and I still am — but it’s LAW enforcement that I will support from now on, not simply police officers.  In this case, the brass who approved this FUBAR operation, and everybody who participated, MUST BE PROSECUTED for their violation of the Constitutional rights of the two citizens they terrorized.

They need to spend some time in the slammer, to “encourage the others”.  Otherwise, our country is going to complete the trip to being a police state.  Meanwhile, someone alert Rand Paul, and let’s see if he really means it.  He can introduce legislation to require that every member of the U.S. Marshals’ Service take a short course on the Bill of Rights – Hillsdale College would be happy to provide it.

UPDATE:

A. Costco’s founder gave Obama the max in two elections, and hosted fundraisers as well.  Last Wednesday, Obama gave an economics speech, and guess who got mentioned?  “…companies like Costco, which pays good wages and offers good benefits….” Someone needs to check and see if The Container Store is a big Dem donor……

B.  The DOJ has set up an e-mail address specifically to take tips from the public to help it in its investigation of George Zimmerman, as to whether he might be a civil rights violator or guilty of a hate crime.

C. Remember how Christine (I am not a witch) O’Donnell’s tax records were improperly accessed the same month she declared her (Republican) candidacy in Delaware?  Wouldn’t you know?  Delaware state officials now report that they can’t bring the records of those calls to the Congressional investigation because they’ve likely been destroyed.  Nothing nefarious, mind you, they just have a very efficient system of deletion/destruction of this type of record after three months or so.  It remains to be seen whether the IRS keeps records of whose tax information is accessed, and for how long.
