Andrew Klavan says men need a day too

Andrew Klavan has a video up suggesting that we celebrate International Men’s Day, because men, like women, have also been responsible for a few things that make the world a better place:

Klavan has a mordant wit.  Anyone who doesn’t laugh should go back and read Steven Pinker’s “Blank Slate,” on the perils of denying any and all biological differences.
(Klavan also recalls the line about “famous all white units that fought in the Civil War,”  including the Army of the Potomac and the Army of Virginia…)

To be honest, while I’ve liked and even loved a lot of Andrew Klavan’s videos, this one just perplexes me. The “men have invented and discovered everything” lines are patently untrue, which means he must be using sarcasm/satire/exaggeration to make a point, and I… don’t really see the point.

Maybe it’s just my brain glitching and overlooking the obvious, though, in which case I’d welcome enlightenment.

Tara S:  It’s definitely not one of his better ones.  The context that I think supports it is schools that routinely denigrate everything from dead white males, while elevating or making up things of significantly less important so long as they come from anyone but a dead white male.

Certainly Klavan is correct that, in part because of patriarchal societies and in part because women raise children, men have invented and contributed more concrete objects to civilization than women have.  They couldn’t have done it without women (both to birth them and to raise them), but the fact is the modern education establishment likes to pretend they didn’t do it at all.
