The Bookworm Beat (11/11/14) — Found it on Facebook, or useful stuff from conservative friends (and Open Thread)
I usually use my “Found it on Facebook” posts to highlight the illogical, illiberal things my many Progressive friends periodically post on Facebook. However, over the past few years, I’ve also been fortunate enough to find a few conservative friends (most of them, surprisingly, from my high school graduating class which, back in the day, was 97% Democrat). These friends have been on a tear lately, posting an amazing number of interesting links, videos and posters. I thought that I’d dedicate a post to their discoveries.
On this Veteran’s Day, a reminder that our military isn’t what it used to be
If my son actually wished to go into the military, I’m sorry to say that I’d think long and hard about saying “yes.” The problem isn’t the military itself; it’s the rules of engagement that essentially tell our troops that they can’t shoot until someone has first taken a shot at them. These rules could also be called “The Rules of Suicide” or, as in the case of Army 1LT Clint Lorance from Celeste Texas, “The Rules of Decades of Imprisonment.” Our troops are in serious trouble when their worst enemy is their own government bureaucracy.
I fully appreciate it when a military does everything it can to minimize civilian casualties. Often, that’s one of the primary things distinguishing us from them. However, in a boots on the ground situation, with experienced troops making decisions on the fly, you simply cannot hamstring the troops with this type of second guessing, enforced by spending large parts of ones natural life in prison.
Climate changistas use data tampering to hide the lack of global warming
With another ferocious winter bearing down on most of America, I wonder how much longer the climate change Nazis can keep up the fiction that we’re imminently going to die because of global warming. Eventually, even without knowing that the Left is tampering with data, people are going to figure out that every single climate prediction has been wrong.
Good riddance to bad rubbish
Islamic hate preacher Anjem Choudary, who lives in England, has expressed a wish to leave England and take his family the newly constituted Islamist State. He claims that he is unable to do so because the British authorities seized his passport and prohibited him from engaging in any international travel. I think it would be a fine thing if the British government gave him a safe pass to the Islamic State, provided that it was a one-way ticket, barring reentry into the United Kingdom and that it made it clear to other nations that it’s not an official British passport.
The ASA’s BDS gets an “F”
The hard-left American Studies Association, an academic organization that once used to be about promoting America and that now is about denigrating America, apparently went one step too far when it decided to exceed its mandate and attack Israel under the banner of Boycott, Divest, and Sanction. Thankfully, its BDS effort gets a big, fat F. American campuses may be disgracefully Left wing, with constantly creeping antisemitism but, at least as of now, discriminating against a democratic nation is still too much for American universities to accept.
