The Bookworm Beat 10-13-15 — the super quick morning round-up

Woman-writing-300x265I’m heading out for a little while, but there are a few articles I really want to share:

I read this article about family and friends policing people’s water use, and all I could think of was the Stasi, which set family members to spy on each other. I felt like flushing the toilet a few dozen times after reading it, but my own good sense — which says you don’t waste water when there’s been no rain — stopped me.

Bret Stephens nails the insane (literally) blood lust (literally) driving the Palestinians’ new intifada, and the world media’s disgraceful antisemitic fraud used in an effort to cover up that the Palestinians need to be collectively straight-jacketed. (Remember, if you can’t get past the paywall, try googling the article and getting in through the Google link.)

Robert Avrech has a few suggestions for dealing with the stabbing phenomenon sweeping amongst Palestinians who move freely about in Israel (unlike Jews, who are routinely, and horrifically, murdered if they stumble into Palestinian territory).

Dennis Prager on the vile racism the Left always shows one blacks dare to escape the plantation. This time the target is Ben Carson, and the reaction is every bit as bloodthirsty as that displayed by the old Democrat slave masters in the antebellum South.

Meanwhile, Daniel Greenfield points out that Jews and guns were once seen as a good pairing, not a bad one.

Victor Davis Hanson exposes Leftist hypocrisy with a proposed suggestion of Ten Commandments that would force the Left’s most vocal proponents to live by their own rules.

Kevin Williamson explains why you should ignore the MSM’s claim that the fight for the House Speaker’s chair represents a disaster for the Republicans, and should instead view this as the best and highest type of political conduct in a true democracy.

Mike McDaniel, who has never written a boring post in his life, takes time to offer a thoughtful answer to my question about whether (and how) America can recover from the damage Barack Obama has down.

Every time I shop, and have to pay 10 cents for a paper bag the merchant once gave me for free, and have no ability to get those very useful plastic bags, I look forward to leaving California. Indeed, the whole overwrought recycling movement powering my shopping and home experience is just wrong.

Just remember: there are few things more racist in effect than the Leftist takeover of the environmental movement. Being the earth’s steward, which is a moral obligation going back to the Bible, is quite different from being an insane, racist Gaia worshipper.

One father (who is also a university professor) amusingly exposes the insanity of the college application process. And you’re right — it wasn’t that crazy when the older generation applied to college (nor were colleges so disproportionately expensive while, in the liberal arts, offering nothing even related to an actual education).

Back later.
