Impressions of the Democrat Party debate

Democrat debateHaving watched the Republican debate on Tuesday, I decided that it behooved me to watch the Democrat debate today. A few things before I begin. First, I did not take notes, so I’m riffing here a bit without any specific road map. Second, I tried to watch the debate through two filters: a sane conservative filter and a unicorns and fairies Progressive filter. Third, barring short video clips, I hadn’t seen Hillary talk at length in years and I hadn’t seen Bernie talk at all. As for O’Malley (is that his name?), I’d never seen him talk at all. (I prefer reading to watching videos.)  With those parameters in mind, here goes:

I’ll start with the voices. As I commented with regard to the Republican debate, voices matter to me. Ten minutes into the debate, I knew precisely whom — or, should I say, what — each candidate brought mind. This is Hillary:

What an incredibly grating, hectoring attack dog she is.

This is Bernie:

Does the man do anything but yell? He’s not the crazy old uncle; he’s the mad dog.

And this is O’Mullet, right down to the sad eyes:

I swear that it looked as if O’Mutton came to maturity after taking a detour through Little Lord Fauntleroy. The really scary thing is that, at times, he sounded like the only sane person on that stage.  I didn’t confuse sane for intelligent, of course.  He just sounded human compared to Hillary’s attack dog and Bernie’s frothing mad dog.

Generally speaking, I disagree profoundly with each candidate’s point of view on just about everything.

I do not support gun control (they do, although Hillary won as the most anti-gun person on the stage);

I do not support universal health care, i.e., socialized medicine (they do, with Hillary begging to keep Obamacare, Bernie dreaming of Medicare for all, and O’Minion whimpering quietly);

I do not believe in anthropogenic climate change (they do, with O’Moron fervently believing that we can have America completely fossil-free in a few decades);

I do not believe America’s police are on a killing spree, knocking off black men across America (they do, and I’ll have more on that later);

I do not believe that we can spend indefinitely and afford all of this spending by “taxing the rich” (Bernie does, Hillary waffles, and O’Mordor was incomprehensible but did boast about his governorship);

I do not support free college educations (they all do, with Bernie once again pulling money off the magic tree);

I do not believe Iran will henceforth give up its nuclear ambitions (they do); and

I do not believe Putin respects Hillary (she thinks that he does, while the others tried not to choke on their own laughter-induced spit).

There are also some things I do believe:

I believe that Hillary got a really good face lift, especially when compared to Andrea Mitchell, who looked like a reject from Dawn of the Living Dead. Not being a beauty myself, I try not to criticize other women’s looks but, honestly, Mitchell has a malpractice action against her plastic surgeon.

I believe that Bernie is a monomaniacal communist. I don’t need to see his record to believe this. It was enough to see him tie every single question back to the evils of corporate America and his loathing for America’s wealthy people. Bernie seems unfamiliar with the fact that, to the extent America’s elections are bought and sold, it’s his union buddies who are doing the buying and selling. The much-maligned Goldman Sachs is only number 15 on the list, both behind and before a slew of donors, the vast majority of whom give to . . . wait for it . . . Democrats:

Top political donors

I believe that Hillary is a very competent debater when she’s been fully prepped. She is also either an idiot or has cojones the size of bowling balls. Otherwise, how to account for this line?  “[T]here should be no bank too big to fail, and no individual too powerful to jail.” Is she taunting fate? Taunting the FBI? Too hubristic to believe anything can happen to her? Or has Obama already assured her that she’ll be free as a bird provided that she makes sure in her campaign to emphasize his wonderfulness (which she did, repeatedly, during the debate).  Also, Hillary is very comfortable puffing her minimal accomplishments.  You have to give her credit for using what she has.

I believe that there’s a huge opportunity for a savvy candidate to remove a sizable constituency from under the Democrats’ noses (and speaking of noses, was I imagining or did Bernie have a booger in his for the first half hour?). I speak of the police officers’ unions, as well as unions for other emergency service providers. I couldn’t help but think police might want to revisit their traditional support for Democrats when I heard Hillary try to burnish her chops with black voters:

HOLT: Alright, Governor, thank you.

Secretary Clinton, this is a community that has suffered a lot of heartache in the last year. Of course, as you mentioned, the church shootings. We won’t forget the video of Walter Scott being shot in the back while running from police.

We understand that a jury will decide whether that police officer was justified, but it plays straight to the fears of many African American men that their lives are cheap. Is that perception, or in your view, is it reality?

CLINTON: Well, sadly it’s reality, and it has been heartbreaking, and incredibly outraging to see the constant stories of young men like Walter Scott, as you said, who have been killed by police officers. Their needs to be a concerted effort to address the systemic racism in our criminal justice system.

And, that requires a very clear, agenda for retraining police officers, looking at ways to end racial profiling, finding more ways to really bring the disparities that stalk our country into high relief.

One out of three African American men may well end up going to prison. That’s the statistic. I want people hear to think what we would be doing if it was one out of three white men, and very often, the black men are arrested, convicted and incarcerated …

(APPLAUSE)

…for offenses that do not lead to the same results for white men.

So, we have a very serious problem that we can no longer ignore.  (Emphasis mine.)

Did you hear that, police officers of America? Hillary thinks you police officers are cold-blooded killers targeting black men because you’re all cogs in a criminal justice system with “systemic racism”? As Tweetie Bird would say, “She don’t like you, do she?”  Hillary seems unaware that, statistically speaking, police officers seldom kill black men.  She also ignores the fact that zealous policing in crime-ridden communities gives black men a greater chance of survival than is the case in a totally lawless environment.

Republican candidates think more highly of police officers. During the Republican debate, Donald Trump said “And by the way, the police are the most mistreated people in this country. I will tell you that.”

Not to be left out, when Ted Cruz delivered his masterful “non-apology apology” about having imputed “New York [Leftist] values” to conservatives in New York state, he had this to say about police officers:

I apologize to all the cops and firefighters and 9/11 heroes who had no choice but to stand and turn their backs on Mayor de Blasio because Mayor de Blasio over and over again stands with the looters and criminals rather than the brave men and women.

Moreover, unlike Hillary, who will clearly take any position to win, Republicans mean it when they say they support police — which is really quite gracious considering that police unions never fund Republicans. While conservatives and Republicans (not always an overlapping group) certainly don’t support officers who go rogue, as a class conservatives and Republicans are law-abiding, and they respect the thin blue line that keeps anarchy from spilling over.

Those black communities in which officers are pulling back from policing for fear of destroying their careers over cries of “racism” are already beginning to see, quite unfortunately, what happens when that thin blue line vanishes altogether. It’s not lions lying down with lambs; it’s more like the mean streets of Syria.

It’s high time that the Republican candidates make a play for police, fire fighters, paramedics, etc. Just as the Europeans have abandoned women in favor of Muslim refugees, the Democrat party is making it quite plain that it will abandon police and other emergency service providers in a New York minute (hah!) in order to keep control over black voters.

What else do I believe? I believe fervently that Bernie doesn’t understand economics. As I mentioned above, our homegrown comrade believes that taxing the rich will result in an influx of money that will fund everything from universal healthcare to free education to a complete infrastructure rebuild. Bill Whittle explains why he’s out of his ever lovin’ mind:

I believe it was hysterically funny to see all three candidates insist that they have what it takes to bring the country together, only to spend the next forty minutes excoriating Republicans (that means you, dear readers) for being evil, racist, stupid, un-scientific, more evil, and really exceptionally stupid, except when you’re just being evil and racist.

I believe that O’Maudlin actually has something to contribute to the debate, but he’s so diffident in the face of a media anxious to support Hillary and expose Bernie’s insanity that he’s being deliberately silenced. I don’t mean that I think he’s any more of a viable candidate than mean Ms. Doberman and equally mean Comrade Saint Bernard. I do mean, though, that Barky Beagle O’Malley is a counterpoint to Ms. Hypocrite-Pander and Comrade Fleece-the-Rich. Having said that, the mere fact that he was unable to make himself heard and had to beg for 30 seconds of time from Andrea Mitchell shows that he lacks any leadership qualities. I think it’s safe to say that we can ignore O’Missing from here on out.

What I believe above all is that it would be a very bad thing if any one of these three people became president. Bernie is a hard core communist, Hillary is an utterly corrupt crony fascist, and O’Minimum is a weak, old-maid nonentity, incapable of holding the stage, let alone leading a nation.  Even trying to watch the debate as if I were a Progressive, I couldn’t like any of those candidates.  A milquetoast, a harridan, and a mad man — all of of them lily white and varying degrees of elderly.  What a dreadful choice those poor Progressives have to make.
