Who Said It?, and More…..

“There’s not a black America and white America and Latino America and Asian America; there’s the United States of America. We are one people, all of us pledging allegiance to the stars and stripes, all of us defending the United States of America.”

Those of you capable of remembering clear back to 2004 will recognize these as the words of a certain Senator Obama, keynoting the Democrat National Convention…..how time does fly, no?  And rhetoric, too.

Obama had the chance, in eight years between 2008 and 2016, to put these words into practice….in his own life, and in his speeches.  And the entire 8 years was like one great big “Never Mind”, as he became the single most divisive figure to occupy the office since (perhaps) Abraham Lincoln….who at least divided the nation over something both real and important.

I’m not going to go on and on….but Myron Magnet has penned a fabulous essay in City Journal.  It’s called The Obama Tragedy.  There’s a LOT more – don’t miss it.

P.S. I KNEW I recognized that name – Myron Magnet is the author of The Dream and the Nightmare: the Sixties’ Legacy to the Underclass, a GREAT book (now available for $0.01, plus postage) that I read back in the early years of this century.

SUPPLYING OUR TROOPS

Have you heard of TroopsDirect.org?  Well, neither had I until this afternoon when Aaron Negherbon (no, I can’t help you with the pronunciation), the guy who started it and runs it today was interviewed by Jonathan Gilliam, who was subbing for Sean Hannity.

TroopsDirect supplies our front-line fighting guys with ANYthing they need and can’t get through the red-tape-burdened military supply chain – I mean helmets, body-armor carriers, stethoscopes and other medical equipment, energy bars and other high-energy foods, K-9 dogs, parts for a forward-base’s generator, and on and on.  It was just unbelievable to me, even though I remembered my time dealing with the Feds when I was in Peace Corps and needed equipment – full YEAR it took.  It never had occurred to me that our guys on the front lines might have to deal with the SAME kind of Washington D.C. mulish inefficiency and block-headedness as I dealt with from 1970s Venezuela

You can donate – and I recommend you join me – in the knowledge that 94% of what you contribute goes directly into the program expenses.

MILO IS AT IT AGAIN……

Milo Yiannopoulos has apparently signed a $250K contract with Simon & Schuster.  Those who know what’s best for us better than we do ourselves are FURIOUS, of course.  Twitter is ablaze!  Milo is laughing all the way to the bank – he LOVES making (the right – though no one on The Right seems upset) people mad, and all the buzz being produced will only increase the sales of his #1 Best-Selling (whatever that mean, these days) book, titled Dangerous.  It comes out in March.

I learned about Milo when Sean Hannity interviewed him sometime last year – I was REALLY intrigued!  He sounded like me and my friends when we were in (boarding) high school as he described his plans to drive the power structure crazy!!  I loved it.  I know little of him – just that he seems to make the Left go nuts, and what’s not to like about THAT?!?

ANOTHER OF “THOSE E-MAILS” FROM A FRIEND…..

This one was titled How to Total a Vehicle Without Scratching the Outside.  You really need to go to the link and look at the photographs, or the rest of this isn’t going to make a lot of sense….

OK….are you aware of the current craze (among some) in California for “re-wilding California”, that is, bringing back all the wild animals that were historically here, and setting aside enough land for them to thrive naturally – not as though in a zoo.  And yes…..that would include the grizzly bear!!

When I first heard this, I said “Nonsense!”, which (regardless of how stupid something sounds) is NOT wise – it’s the Left we’re dealing with, after all…..and “environmentalist wackos” on top of it.  And then the NRA published this article, confirming what I’d heard earlier, and explaining that the idea would be to shut down all human hunting in the State, as the populations of “top predators” increased to the point where there wouldn’t be any “excess” game animals for people to shoot.

Of course, as “game animals” ran short for the grizzlies, cougars, etc…..what (who?) would be left?  The folks who vote for this kind of merde live in Hollywood, Silicon Valley, San Francisco, etc…..so they have very little to worry about.  But, the rest of us……?

AND, FINALLY……

Another book recommendation.  It’s not a new one – first published in 2006, and now available from Amazon (does Bookworm still have a button?) for a penny (plus $3.99 postage).  And, for most of our dear Bookworm’s readers, it’s likely not going to be bringing a big surprise, either.  I heard the author interviewed today – in a “best of” show, so it MIGHT have been taped almost 10 years ago.  No matter, some of the stuff he was talking about had my mouth dropping open…..

The book is Who Really Cares, and it deserves WIDE readership.  Written by a (then) liberal-leaning musician and academic, Arthur C. Brooks, who was a French-hornist of sufficient quality to have toured with various bands, played in the Annapolis Brass Quintet and the City Orchestra of Barcelona and taught at the Harid Conservatory.  I’m guessing his liberalism was largely absorbed from his (artistic) surroundings, considering his later efforts.

At 30, he went (back?) to college, and got a bachelor’s in Economics, then a Master’s in the same and finally a doctorate in policy analysis.  He worked at the RAND corporation, Georgia State and then Syracuse University, where he did the research for this book (He now works at AEI).  The big finding is that people identifiable as conservatives are far more generous (as a % of income) than are those identifiable as liberals.  Big surprise, no?  No.  Religious people are more generous as well – and it’s not just money….they give more of their TIME than the non-religious, and religious conservatives are more generous than religious liberals.

Worth having for that annoying friend who denies the obvious, anyhow……
