America: past, present, and future — a depressing post for today

In America, two past events and one past trend are leading us inexorably — absent a black swan event — to one of two very grim American futures.

America on FireI got to thinking about where we are now, right now, with the Deep State on the verge of a successful coup against an elected American president; with Islam on the march around the Western world; and with all of our primary communication, education, and corporate outlets in Marxist hands. As I see it, there are two major past events and one major past trend that have left us with a grim present that leads to two potential futures, both equally disastrous.

Past Event No. 1: The first Past Event that has led to our current tenuous present is Kennedy’s 1962 Executive Order 10988, which allowed federal employees to unionize. Even Franklin Roosevelt had stopped short of taking that step. Although Roosevelt was in the trifecta of Leftist political presidents (Wilson, Roosevelt, and Obama), he explicitly stated that “It is impossible to bargain collectively with the government.”

What someone even as hard Left as Roosevelt understood is that, in the private sector, when the owners and unions sat down at the negotiating table, they both have skin in the game. The owners are paying any negotiated wages out of their own money and the union members have a vested interested in keeping the business going.

That’s not the case with government unions. The only people with skin in the game are taxpayers, and they’re nowhere near that negotiating table. Instead, politicians and union bosses sit down to figure out how much taxpayer money can be given to government employees without fomenting armed rebellion. The understanding when they leave the table is that a significant amount of that same money will find its way back into the politicians’ pockets, whether in the form of forced union dues or donations from employees who know precisely which politicians are raping taxpayers for the benefit of government employees.

Because unions have always been a Democrat Party game, Kennedy’s executive order turned America’s bureaucracy from a party-neutral form civil service working for America’s benefit into a giant arm of the Democrat Party. We all know and are grateful for that small percentage of government employees who have managed to retain the common sense and common decency that comes with conservativism.

The larger reality though, is that federal employees, from the upper echelons of the each administrative branch down to the mail room minions, are hardcore Democrat activists who know that, if Democrats lose power in Washington D.C., these employees lose their gold-plated benefits (far in excess of similarly situated workers in the private sector) and, quite possibly, they lose their jobs. That last, incidentally, the bit about losing jobs, was the threat Donald Trump brought with him to the White House, when he promised to shrink the bloated, ineffectual, bullying administrative state.

No wonder, then, that Obama was so easily able, either explicitly or implicitly, to encourage the federal bureaucracy to carry out the Democrat agenda, whether it was the IRS destroying pro-conservative and pro-Israel groups; the EPA destroying the energy industry and advancing an apocalyptic and redistributionist view of “climate change; or the DOJ and FBI actively weaponizing themselves against anything conservative and covering up anything that might harm Democrats. Moreover, as you think about this ideological takeover of America’s civil service, don’t forget that, thanks to a massive buying spree during the Obama administration, our administrative offices have more guns and ammo than the entire Marine Corps.

It is this armed, ready, and biased administrative state that is working hard to take down a properly elected president. The first effort was the Democrat-hatched “Russia collusion” accusation against Trump collapsed, which is collapsing for want of any evidence. With that having failed, the Democrat-controlled, weaponized, unionized administrative state is now attacking Trump very directly.

The no-knock raid on Trump’s personal attorney, Michael Cohen, is intended to box Trump in on all sides. If he fires Mueller, that’s obstruction and he’ll be impeached. If he pardons Cohen, that’s obstruction and he’ll be impeached. If he does nothing, the Progressive cohorts in the DOJ and FBI will root through every attorney-client privileged scrap of paper in Cohen’s possession until they find something, anything.

As Stalin’s henchman Lavrentiy Beria so succinctly said, “Show me the man and I’ll show you the crime.” I like better the way Dan Bongino states the same sentiment because he also exposes the profoundly anti-American ideology underpinning Mueller’s actions:

Thanks to Kennedy’s executive order, we are facing a government coup against an elected leader. The only time America experienced a more perilous internal threat was on the eve of the Civil War — and we know just how bad things got when that threat was executed.

In my optimistic moments, which are rare, I hope that the Inspector General’s report will expose the Deep State for what it is or that President Trump, a born fighter, has some magical Hollywood judo ending for us.

In my pessimistic moments, which are more common, I foresee that Trump will be taken down over his attorney’s $130,000 payment to a stripper. After all, the GOP hates Trump too and wants desperately to go back to a peaceful status quo in which members of the GOP accrued power by mouthing conservative platitudes and then governing like the rest of America’s Leftists. If Trump goes down, we may see a very swift descent into civil unrest and the collapse of America’s normative politics and safe civil space.

Past Event No. 2: Past Event No. 2 happened in 1979 when President Carter’s weakness allowed the Iranian Revolution to unfold. Even worse, his weakness allowed the Iranian hostage crisis to mature, with every passing day strengthening Khomeini’s radical Sunni Shia government.

I don’t doubt that, had the hostages been taken on Reagan’s or Trump’s watch, the planes bombing Tehran would have started striking within 24 hours, freeing the hostages, and, if not destroying the Sharia revolution, at least constraining it. But that’s not what happened, a weak Carter — who is a less flashy version of Obama insofar as he’s never met a dictator he hasn’t bowed before or an anti-Semite he didn’t respect — let that revolution roll.

To those who say Carter is a good man because he’s religious, faithful to his wife, and occasionally hammers nails on homes for the poor, he’s not. He’s an evil man because, even while he pursues his little world of moral righteousness, he unleashed evil on the world and, with his affection for dictators, continues to worship at evil’s altar. I’ll take a million stripper-shtupping, vulgar, crude Trumps over a single Bible-thumping Carter. At least Trump loves America and understands where the big moral divides are. I don’t care if he imperils his own soul as long as he saves America’s.

Anyway, the Iranian revolution sparked worldwide disaster. Before Khomeini came along, Arab and Muslim nationalism had been limited to kicking Westerners out their specific states (and, of course, kicking Jews out of Israel). This nationalism wasn’t good for oil interests and it wasn’t good for those Jews who had occupied the Holy Land since the time of David and the Jews who later joined them as part of the Zionist movement. Nevertheless, it was a geographically constrained nationalism that respected existing borders.

Khomeini, though, made it clear that he wanted to export his revolution outside of Iran. He was going to turn the Middle East into an Iranian colony.

Saudi Arabia, the lead Sunni state in the region, couldn’t accept that threat. Within Saudi Arabia, beginning in the 1960s, the ruling family had already promised complete financial and ideological support to radical Wahhabi clerics in exchange for the latters’ promise that they would not lead a revolution within Saudi Arabia against the ruling family. After the Iranian revolution and Khomeini’s aggressive push outside of Iran’s borders, these same clerics upped the stakes: they would protect the Saudi Royals from the Sunni revolution provided that the Saudi royals funded Wahhabi Islam’s spread throughout the world. Although this deal with the Wahhabist devil focused on the Muslim nations and territories spreading from West Africa to Northern China, with northern and southern incursions into Turkey, India, and the Malayan Peninsula, the Saudis also spread madrassas throughout the tolerant West.

In addition to funding madrassas, kept the mujahedeens fighting against the Soviets in Afghanistan. Ironically enough, as part of the Cold War, American funds joined with the Saudis in that one, laying the groundwork for the Taliban and Al Qaeda. And here’s another irony: Reagan and Bush were not interested in creating colonies so, the moment the Soviets pulled out, they removed any remnants of American influence in Afghanistan, again making space for the Taliban and Al Qaeda. I wonder if Obama had that history in mind when he removed Americans from Iraq without allowing that nation to stabilize and become a true American ally.

It was thanks to these Iranian and Saudi efforts after the Iranian Revolution (the success of which I blame in large part on Jimmy Carter’s miserable failure), that Islam transformed from a weak regional phenomenon into an aggressive jihad breaking free from North Africa and the Middle East and marching on the whole world. This worldwide jihad is a very bad thing, because Islam ascendant is just as bad as the Bubonic Plague. It spreads rapidly, killing as it goes, and, where it doesn’t kill, it nevertheless becomes endemic, changing the infrastructure into which it has inserted itself. Moreover, Islam has the perfect time to spread in the West now, because Europe’s soft socialism has seen its self-loathing morph into a supine position that has the effect of slo-mo suicide.

And speaking of Europe’s inability to defend itself against Muslim incursions in the form of a mostly male “refugee crisis,” back in 2008, Edward Cline, riffing off a friend’s email , gave voice to a percentage rule of thumb to measure levels of Muslim violence in any country. Based upon the changes in the world since 2008, I think you’ll find that the estimates below are completely accurate when it comes to predicting Muslim behavior throughout Europe (as well as in Dearborn, Michigan, and parts of Minnesota):

“As long as the Muslim population remains around 1% of any given country it will be regarded as a peace-loving minority and not as a threat to anyone….”

[snip]

“At 2% and 3% they [Muslims] begin to proselytize from other ethnic minorities and disaffected groups with major recruiting from the jails and among street gangs.”

[skip]

“From 5% on they [Muslims] exercise an inordinate influence in proportion to their percentage of the population. They will push for the introduction of halal (“clean” by Islamic standards) food, thereby securing food preparation jobs for Muslims. They will increase pressure on supermarket chains to feature it on their shelves – along with threats for failure to comply (United States).”

[skip]

“At this point, they [Muslims] will work to get the ruling government to allow them to rule themselves under Sharia, or Islamic law. The ultimate goal of Islam is not to convert the world but to establish Sharia law over the entire world.

“When Muslims reach 10% of the population, they will increase lawlessness as a means of complaint about their conditions (Paris – car burning). Any non-Muslim action that offends Islam will result in uprisings and threats (Amsterdam, Denmark – Mohammed cartoons, murder of Theo van Gogh).”

[skip]

[The one anomaly in this set of statistics is Israel, which has not experienced uprisings and threats of violence. Its Arab or Muslim population enjoys equal political rights with Jewish Israelis. The suicide bombings and rocket attacks that have killed hundreds have been perpetrated by outsiders.]

“After reaching 20% [of a population] expect hair-trigger rioting, Jihad militia formations, sporadic killings and church and synagogue burning:

[skip]

“After 40% you will find widespread massacres, chronic terror attacks and ongoing militia warfare:”

[skip]

“From 60% you may expect unfettered persecution of non-believers and other religions, sporadic ethnic cleansing (genocide), use of Sharia Law as a weapon and jizya, the tax placed on [conquered] infidels:”

[skip]

“After 80%, expect state-run ethnic cleansing and genocide:”

[skip]

“100% will usher in the peace of ‘Dar-es-Salaam’ – the Islamic House of Peace’ [more correctly, dar-al-Islam, or Land of Islam]. There is supposed to be peace because everybody is a Muslim.”

This Muslim jihad world is what Carter’s craven, stupid behavior bequeathed to us. Some Americans, looking at Europe, have become justifiably Islamophobic, insofar as they dislike the anti-Christian, antisemitic, anti-female, anti-homosexual, anti-free speech, etc. elements that characterize Islam. They voted for Trump to stave off that future for America — but the hard-Left state that Kennedy’s executive order is fighting mightily to destroy America’s homegrown Charles Martel.

The Past Trend: The Past Trend is not a single event. It is, instead, the way in which American society as a whole unwittingly allowed Marxism to get a foothold in America’s institutions of higher education. Fifty, forty . . . even thirty years ago, most people didn’t notice what was going on (although Allan Bloom sounded a tocsin), while those who did see what was happening probably thought, “Those goofy academics. When the kids get into the real world, they’ll abandon those Leftist ideas.”

Of course, that wishful thinking did not come into being. When the college-educated kids got into the real world, equipped with their shiny, prestigious degrees, they gravitated to the highest echelons of American communication and education. They became writers at television shows; writers and talking heads in print and television news; teachers from kindergarten up to the highest PhD, M.D., or J.D. program; movie executives; and corporate management.

It’s that last one — the Marxist takeover of corporate management — that has come as the greatest shock to conservatives, and that’s not just because corporate Marxism seems like an oxymoron. It’s not really an oxymoron, of course. The other word for corporate Marxism is fascism: private businesses are allowed to function, and profit, provided that they are subordinate to and in the service of the state.

Conservatives had grown used to the entertainment world and the news media churning out Marxist pabulum, providing billions of dollars worth of free Democrat advertising; they’d resigned themselves to Marxism invading every aspect of public education and responded by retreating to home schooling; and they plugged their ears as the newly Leftist public institutions relentlessly attacked conservatives and their values. But it came as a real surprise to them that corporate America would be filled to the brim with . . . Leftist products of those institutions Leftists colonized.

These new corporate Leftists may exceed past generations in unfiltered greed, but their political leanings are fascist. They dream of shutting down all opposition to their Progressive agenda, one that sees them amassing ever-increasing wealth and power so that they can — ahem — “humanely” rule over all the helpless little people: minorities, slack-jawed flyover state residents, backwards southerners, and the average Tea Party hater.

It’s this Leftist corporate takeover, seeded by the fragile flowers incubated in America’s hard Left academic institutions, that explains why Mark Zuckerberg thinks it’s a good idea to create computerized Facebook algorithms that will destroy all conservative “wrong think”; why Twitter’s CEO speaks approvingly of wiping out the balance of two-party governance in favor of a one-party hard-Progressive federal nation; and why, for the first time in American history, corporations are boycotting customers who dare to engage in the non-Leftist “wrong think” Zuckerberg hopes to erase. Orwell would recognize these “Newspeak” and “New Think” totalitarians for what they are.

Thanks to American passivity in the face of academic extremism, we are 50 years down a road that may not offer any opportunities for future U-turns or other changes in direction.

Where the road we’re traveling takes us. Where do the above events and that one trend leave us? Not in a good place. Unless there’s a black swan somewhere down the line, we are heading inevitably towards a socialist America. That is, if the Deep State wins against Donald Trump, the Leftist infrastructure in government, media, and education will become ascendant with nothing to stop it. History shows that socialism ends in two ways: Hard socialism, along the lines of China or the former Soviet Union, ends with iron-fisted totalitarianism. Soft socialism, as in Europe, ends with cultural suicide that paves the way for the ascendant Islamic jihad Jimmy Carter bequeathed us, whether through war or immigration.

I’m praying for a Black Swan. My prayers aren’t usually answered, though. That’s why I’m assuming that the American future will be totalitarian — either Marxist or Islamic — and that it might happen within my lifetime and will definitely happen within my children’s.
