Another round-up while I catch up

I’ve lived most of my life in California.  When I was a child, it was one of the most prosperous places in the world, although the rot was already setting in.  My child’s perspective placed the rot in the hippies and in the liberal takeover of the public school system.  What I didn’t realize was that the whole public school system thing was the tip of the iceberg, since it represented the beginning of the growth of the public sector unions.  Steve Malanga explains why the Golden State may be tarnished irreparably.

Bob Weir on the disappointment that is Obama.  (As in, not only a radical, but not a racial healer either.  More like a . . . hmmm . . . tyrant.)

And an Open Thread, because I can’t get anything else written and read right now.  Today is an insane day as I am about to embark on my second of five trips to my children’s schools.  (Don’t ask.)  Basically, I drive around in circles today.
