I miss the days of travel agents

I’ve been working this morning on booking our vacation.  It’s not a task I particularly enjoy.  The internet makes massive amounts of information available, which is a good thing, but I find it unnerving to try to winnow all that information down in the hope that I’m making good choices.  What’s also unnerving is knowing that, if you change one itsy-bitsy piece of info (date of departure, airport, etc.), prices can rise and fall by hundreds, even thousands, of dollars.  It means that every detail is fraught with meaning and risk.

I’ve now got the big parts of the vacation planned, but myriad details remain to be done.  Yuck.
