“But, wait! There’s more!” Obama now needs help getting spare change

Do you remember those old Ginsu knife commercials?  You’d get about 1 minute of marvelous patter about the way the Ginsu knife could slice and dice everything from tomatoes to concrete.  Just in case that sell wasn’t enough, though, the hard sell would end with a marvelous line:  “But, wait!  There’s more!”  It turned out that you, the viewer, didn’t have to settle for just a Ginsu knife.  Instead, if you ordered quickly, or paid an extra ten dollars, you’d get the magic whizzy thing that would transform onions into chrysanthemums or the chopper that would turn your potato into oil ready fries in seconds.

I loved those commercials when I was a little kid.  I find the whole notion less appealing now, when the product for sale is our President — and this President is so lacking in marketability that his handlers have to throw in a “but wait, there’s more” side to get people to cough up some money.

This “dinner with Obama” solicitation campaign has been around for awhile, with a starting raffle price of a $25 campaign donation.  When people refused to cough up $25, the campaign started begging for $10 and, eventually, $3.  Now it seems as people aren’t willing to pay even $3 for the chance to dine with the President.  The campaign has therefore thrown in an added enticement:  George Clooney.

Yes, folks, for the fabulous price of just $3, you can win a chance to dine with both the President and a major Hollywood actor:

Friend —

Want to meet George Clooney and Barack Obama — at Clooney’s house?

He’s hosting supporters at his home next month to help build support for this campaign and elect President Obama in November. And he’s saving seats for two grassroots supporters like you and their guests. It’s just not a chance most people get — well, ever.

For a chance to hang out with President Obama at George Clooney’s house, donate $3 or whatever you can to be automatically entered to win.

George Clooney is doing his part to help re-elect the President, but he also knows that it’s folks like you who will decide this election. That’s why we’re reserving a few spots for grassroots supporters.

If you donate $3 or whatever you can today, you’ll be doing your part to support the campaign, and be automatically entered to join them in Los Angeles.

If you ask me, this is far too good to pass up:

This is even more unseemly than California’s Lt. Governor appearing on an obscure cable TV channel to interview his Left-leaning Silicon Valley and Hollywood acquaintances.  The White House is suddenly up for sale, not even to the highest bidder, which at least has some cachet (even if only an unsavory flair), but to the lowest bidder.  Worse, even at that price no one wants it, unless it’s got an actor throw in too.

I will say this for the Obama administration.  Just when I think it can’t sink any lower . . . it does.
