That title might have been more “sensitive”, given the story at hand.
An elementary school student (10 years old) in Portsmouth, Hampshire, UK was forbidden by his teacher to drink from his water bottle because…..wait for it…..because Muslim classmates who were fasting for Ramadan might get upset!
This on one of the hottest days of the year in that part of the world. The boy’s mother was quite upset, and complained to the school authorities. They (surprise!) said it was all a misunderstanding and that water wasn’t “forbidden”, just that teachers asked students if it would be “fair” to Muslims if they drank when their classmates couldn’t.
In fact, “pupils were just reminded to be respectful to their classmates”….nothing coercive about THAT with 10-year olds, now is there?
