LGBT special interests are planning ahead for a Clinton administration

the-pride-lgbt-resumesThe LGBT community is getting ready to swarm the White House in the event of a Clinton victory. As always, the focus isn’t on the individual (i.e., a black economist who happens to be gay) but is, instead, on sexual orientation first (i.e., a gay black man who happens to be an economist). To this end, a leading LGBT activist who had a high position in the Obama administration is leading a coalition of 30 LGBT organizations to gather resumes with which to deluge the Clinton White House.

The promise is that the resumes collected will highlight diversity, but the diversity required seems limited to superficial things, rather than to true differences in character, outlook, ability, and intelligence. But don’t take my word for it. What follows are a few choice quotations from the article that relayed this information.

The article makes it clear up front that LGBT groups are all in for Clinton because of the threat Donald presents:

Full disclosure: The Pride Los Angeles has officially endorsed Clinton for president, joining the other 11 members of the National Gay Media Association in taking this unprecedented step to ensure the progress of LGBT equality, rather than the roll-backs promised by Republican nominee Donald Trump.

You’ll notice that there is no hyperlink to the statement holding that Trump promises roll-backs. I find that telling because, as far as I can tell, the only thing Trump has promised is that the government will not violate the 13th Amendment by forcing Christians (and other religious people) to perform religiously objectionable services for gay people against their will. Even gay people — that is, rational gay people — understand that, in a free market, it’s a profound denial of liberty to use the coercive power of the government to force people into affirmative acts that violate their religion. Other than that, there’s no indication that Trump gives a hoot about the LGBT agenda one way or the other.

With a hoped-for Clinton victory, the gay lobby is reinvigorating it’s machinery to ensure that the LGBT spectrum gets “a place at the table”:

Meanwhile, preparations are underway to ensure that the LGBT community has more than a few seats at the table in the upcoming Clinton administration. On Monday, the Gay & Lesbian Victory Institute, victoryinstitute.org the non-profit partner of the Victory Fund political action committee, announced that it has hired Reginald Greer to head the important Presidential Appointments Initiative (PAI). Created in 1992 just before the tide-changing election of pro-gay Bill Clinton, the Presidential Appointments Project (now PAI) fought against strong anti-gay right wing sentiment in Congress to secure the first-ever appointees at high levels in the new administration.

Again, I consider this bass ackwards. A qualified person shouldn’t be disqualified because he or she is gay, or lesbian, or likes sleeping with rubber dolls. However, merely being gay, or lesbian, or a rubber doll fetishist is not what makes someone qualified.

While I may think that way, and you probably do too, for the LGBT lobby it’s all about notches in the bedpost, with each notch representing someone gay who got a prominent position in the administration:

By the end of his administration, President Barack Obama has “vastly changed the face of the federal bureaucracy” through his appointments, according to the Washington Post last month. Indeed, in anticipation of Obama’s presidency in 2008, the Victory Institute collected more than 3,000 LGBT resumes which lead to six out gay ambassadors; the first gay special envoy to promote LGBT rights globally; five transgender officials at federal agencies; the first full-time trans employee in the White House; the first gay male White House Social Secretary; the first secretary of a branch of the military with Army Sec. Eric Fanning; and hundreds of other staffers and interns.

The LGBT lobby, while warning against election day hubris, is nevertheless planning a repeat of the Victory Institute’s marked success in getting LGBT people high profile positions because they identify as LGB or T:

Now Greer, a former Obama appointee himself as Deputy Director of Public Engagement at the U.S. Department of Transportation, is leading a coalition of 30 organizations to identify and submit a diverse pool of resumes from exemplary LGBT candidates applying for all levels in the federal government. Additionally, once selected, PAI promises to advocate for the prospective appointees.

It’s not, “Hire me. I’m good.” It’s, “Hire me. I’m gay.” To me, that’s just wrong.

The organization promises that it will be inclusive and diverse but, as always, that diversity ends up being the inversion of Martin Luther King’s dictum that we should look to character rather than external characteristics:

PAI is also committed to recruiting more women, people of color, transgender people and individuals outside the Beltway, so their perspectives and voices are included in the new administration, according to the press release.

Again, I don’t care what sexual orientation trails behind a person’s skill and personality. What I hate is when the sexual orientation is the leading edge, followed closely by skin color, gender (although who the Hell knows what gender means nowadays when anyone can be a woman just by wishing), leaving abilities and character lagging behind at a very distant third.
