[MUST-SEE VIDEO] Hillary’s abortion stance means Catholics cannot vote for her

catholics-cannot-vote-democratWhen it comes to Progressives, even if they’ve been forced to back down on all other issues, they will take their stand and die on the hill of unlimited, legal abortion. As Nancy Pelosi said of late-term abortions — the ones done on a viable, sentient fetus — the fact that she is a practicing Catholic gives her the right to say that such abortions are “sacred ground.” On the Left, unlimited abortion is a right so inviolable that nothing should derail its legality — including God.

One priest, the Very Rev. John Lankeit, has had the courage to stand up and say what all faithful Catholics know intuitively: abortion is inconsistent with Catholic doctrine and morally wrong. Furthermore, once you accept this doctrinal truth, you have to accept that you cannot vote for the political party and the presidential candidate who will not only preserve abortion but will expand it and make taxpayers fund it.

Father Lankeit does more than just invoke God’s Word. This is important because it means he reaches out to those who are not Catholic, or Christian, or even believers. He tackles the arguments that pro-abortion people routinely raise against those who oppose abortion and shows how hypocritical and shallow their arguments are. These are words that everyone should hear. And once having heard them, people (Catholic or not) need to decide whether they accept that Father Lankeit is speaking the truth. And if they decide he is speaking the truth, they need to ask themselves whether they can still support the Democrat party and the Democrat candidate:

I found the sermon particularly moving because I’ve traveled such a long road on abortion. In my Leftist days, it was obvious to me that an unborn fetus shouldn’t interfere with a living woman’s life. Also, like both Margaret Sanger and Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, I approved of the way that abortion cut down on the number of children born into poverty, not just because poverty is bad for children, but because poor people are bad for society. I certainly didn’t see myself as a eugenicist; just as a pragmatist, who was interested in women’s welfare.

My problems started when I saw the sonogram of my first child, who already, at 16 weeks, had a spine that looked like a beautiful little string of pearls. This wasn’t an amorphous fetus, this was a baby. And eventually it was a baby I held into my arms, which then turned into a toddler running amok, which became a playful little child, which turned into a surprisingly nice adolescent, who is now a very good young adult. I saw the whole process repeat itself with my second child. The reality of a child meant that I could no longer pretend that the aborted fetus and the living child were not one and the same.

I’m still willing to accept that there are times when abortion is necessary, such as to save the mother’s life (although those situations are increasingly infrequent in the world of modern medicine). But the fact is that we don’t live in the 1950s or before anymore. Women don’t need to avoid the stigma of having a baby out of wedlock or even without a father present (something that, when done by an affluent white woman, is now viewed as a hip, courageous act). A woman’s outraged parents aren’t going to toss her into the snow without shoes or money. Nor can parents force a young woman to give her baby up for adoption.

What is different from the 1950s is the omnipresent sexual promiscuity. Changing that will change the face of abortion in America. Ironically enough the Left is changing that promiscuity by enforcing its bizarre puritanism on college campuses. If the default position on the Left is that every man is a rapist, those men who want sex had better get married. At least that way, an angry or depressed woman won’t suddenly accuse them of rape. Moreover, if their wife gets pregnant, even if the pregnancy is unexpected, a married couple is more likely to see that pregnancy as do-able within the four corners of a nuclear family.

Watch the sermon. Father Lankeit is an organized and compelling speaker who says things that need to be said to Catholics and non-Catholics alike. The Left is driving us to become a death culture. We’ve seen these death cultures before, always organizing people’s lives on a hierarchy from least valuable to most valuable. You can think of historic examples without my spelling out the details. Let me just say that, no matter which death-oriented culture you bring to mind, they never end well.
