Democrats Without Honesty; Republicans Without Chests

I always expect that the progressive left will act without intellectual honesty or conscience to achieve their ends.  I did not expect the progs to be aided in their efforts by eunuchs in the Dept. of Justice.  As Andy McCarthy opines, The Justice Dept. Is Killing Trump.

Everything in the public record to date suggests that the claim of “Russian hacking” had no quantifiable impact on the 2016 election, that President Trump was not involved in the Russian “hacking,” nor that the “hacking” was in any way coordinated on Trump’s behalf by someone in his campaign or administration.  Yet since December of 2016, the progressive left (and Hildabeast) have made a cause celebre of “Russian hacking” in order to portray the election of Donald Trump as illegitimate.  The Democrats were aided and abetted in that effort by the Director of the FBI, James Comey, who on one hand publicly announced in March that the FBI was investigating the Trump administration for ties to Russia and who, on the other hand, refused to relieve any of the pressure on the Trump administration by correcting the public record — including multiple requests that Comey make public that Trump himself was not and never had been a subject of the probe.

Let’s switch gears for a moment.  As to special counsels, can you recall all of the special counsels appointed under Obama?  No need to wrack your memory.  There were zero.

Fast and Furious – none.  Lois Lerner, the weaponization of the IRS on behalf of Democrats, and the IRS destruction of evidence  – none.  Hillary’s serial serial violation of our security laws and the laws governing destruction of government records – none.  I could go on and on.  The Obama years were an illegal enterprise.  The Obama White House brazenly ignored the calls for a special counsel in each and every case, and certainly none of the Obama appointees in the Justice Department objected.  They were, after all, on a mission to advance the progressive cause.

Fast and Furious demanded appointment of a special counsel.  It involved potential illegal acts by senior members of the AG’s office.  It is not possible for there to be a bigger conflict of interest than for the AG to investigate the AG.  And then of course there was Hillary Clinton.  On that one, it is now certain that the FBI and AG conducted a sham investigation, that AG Lynch coordinated her and the FBI’s use of language with the Clinton campaign, and that FBI Director Comey grossly overstepped his legal authority explicitly to prevent the appointment of a special counsel in that matter.  In retrospect, it equally required the appointment of a special counsel.

I would be intellectually dishonest if, in arguing for a return to rule of law, I argued that we played tit for tat with a prior administration that made a mockery of the Constitution and the rule of law.  That said, and taking nothing away from that statement, one would have to be an idiot not to see that the progressive left, aided by a one sided media, are doing everything in their power to use claims of amorphous “Russian hacking” to dishonestly undermine the Trump administration.  If there was any evidence that such a claim had merit, that would be one thing.  No one has yet to see it, beyond false leaks to the media.  The reality is that the FBI under Comey – and I think it beyond safe to call him no friend of Trump at this point – found no evidence to tie Trump to the “Russian hacking.”

One would also have to be an idiot not to understand that progressive calls for the appointment of a special counsel to investigate “Russian hacking” as a criminal matter, ongoing since January, are and were dishonestly aimed at undermining the Trump administration.  Nothing more, nothing less.

The appointment of a special counsel has several effects, all to the extreme detriment of Donald Trump’s ability to govern.  One,  the appointment of a special counsel starts anew all existing investigations.  Thus, as Comey noted in regards to the possibility of appointment of a special counsel in the Hillary e-mail travesty, it adds months if not years to any existing investigation.  The mere appointment of a special prosecutor means that progressives will be able to keep the “Russian hacking” investigation front and center in the media, complete with leaks that may well be utterly false – but still damaging to Trump – for that entire time.

Two, history has shown that special counsels are witch hunters, and  witch hunters find witches.    Patrick Fitzgerald has to be the poster boy for this most recent iteration.  Charged with investigating the unmasking of Valerie Plame as a CIA undercover operative (she was not – which is the first thing Fitzgerald should have determined and then ended his investigation), he found the source of the leak within a few months, but then kept the investigation ongoing for two years to charge Vice President Cheney’s Chief of Staff with lying under oath.  That is a grotesque travesty of law and politics.

Lastly, special counsels are not in any way shape or form an assurance of unbiased “rule of law.”  For instance, the progs are now are drawing parallels between Nixon and Trump.  Nixon resigned the Presidency in 1974 rather than, as seemed certain at the time, be impeached for obstruction of justice.  According to Fauxcohauntus, Sen. Liz Warren, she of the Pale Face tribe, the “Trump-Russia scandal” could be “worse than Nixon”:

A lot of people compare this to Nixon and they say, ‘That’s what got Nixon, was the obstruction of justice.’ And it’s true, but this is a lot worse because this one has connections to a foreign power, which the whole back-and-forth around obstruction of justice with Nixon did not include.

Obviously it is time to sound the war drums.

That woman makes my skin crawl.

Regardless, it is worth noting that Archibald Cox, the special prosecutor who brought down Nixon, populated his investigative team with lawyers (including Hildabeast) whose mission was to ‘get Nixon.’  The current special prosecutor, is likewise populating his investigative team with people who are predisposed to finding Trump guilty of . . . something, whatever they can cobble together to fatally undermine his Presidency.

As Newt Gingrich,  a man who well knows the price of such partisan “investigations”, observed, after it became known that Mueller, the newly appointed special counsel, was hiring Democrat operatives to form his “investigative” team:

Should now be clear Mueller is the ‘anti-Trump special counsel . . . Mueller is setting up a dragnet of obstruction, financial questions and every aspect of Trump’s life and his associates lives. . . .  Very dangerous,” . . .  Mueller is “the tip of the deep state spear aimed at destroying or at a minimum undermining and crippling the Trump presidency. . . . The brazen redefinition of Mueller’s task tells you how arrogant the deep state is and how confident it is it can get away with anything.

I agree.  And in cosmic irony, we now have special counsel Mueller conducting an investigation wherein a close personal friend, former FBI director Comey, is a central witness and who may himself have committed one or more felonies in his handling of the charge of obstruction.  That is a true conflict of interest for Mueller per 28 CFR 45.2.

Why did this happen?  It happened because progs are playing chess for keeps while the right is still playing checkers within the Constitutional system.  It happened because key people on the right lack foresight or testicles.

Far too many people on the right still do not understand that we, today, are not in politics as usual.  A century ago, if administrations changed, they were still both operating under the strictures of the Constitution.  Today, the Constitution has been shredded by the progressives and they are within a hair of making the Constitution a nullity.  For progressives, this is the end game, the moment before total victory.  They have no intention of letting anything get in the way of their domination of our nation for decades to come.  House Majority Whip Steve Scalise, now lying in the Critical Care unit, is exhibit ten thousand and one.

As I said several months ago, it has taken me half a century to realize that my default belief of “live and let live” is not viable when the other side operates with the intent of taking power at all costs, wholly in disregard of the Constitution and the rule of law to the extent that they can obviate one or the other at any given moment.  It is not that these people are simply wrong.  It is that they are either deliberately ignorant sheep or evil, with no in between.

All of which brings us to the Dept. of Justice and first, the decision of Jeff Sessions to recuse himself from the Russia investigation.  That was soon followed by Dep. AG Rod Rosentein’s decision to appoint a special counsel.

As Andy McCarthy points out, AG Sessions had no need to recuse himself from the Russia investigation in the first instance.  Sessions was not a witness to any material fact.  The “ethics” experts none the less recommended he recuse himself out of concern for the “appearance” of impropriety.  Wow.  Sessions’s first question should have been to ask where were these ethics experts during Fast and Furious, Hillary’s serial felonies, or Lois Lerner?  Donald Trump was right to be outraged that Sessions recused himself sans an actual conflict of interest.

AG Jeff Sessions, at 70 years of age, is a southern gentleman with a strong sense of honor and propriety — and a man who had previously been subject to and injured by false charges of racism.  Sessions agreed with the “ethics” experts at DOJ and recused himself.  I like Jeff Sessions, but he is clearly in the class of Republicans ineffectually playing checkers while the progs play chess.  He might as well be fiddling while Rome burns down around him.  Sessions has preserved his personal honor beyond question, but he has failed in his job to protect Trump from those who would wrongly and unjustifiably use our legal system to destroy Trump’s ability to govern.  In the end, that makes of Jeff Sessions a coward.

That brings us to Deputy AG Rod Rosenstein a man not merely a coward, but far beyond.  Following Sessions’s recusal, Rosenstein had responsibility for the counterintelligence investigation into “Russian hacking.”   He has abdicated his responsibilities without cause.

Here is a thumbnail of the facts that led Rosenstein to appoint a special prosecutor.  It gets convoluted.

In December, Michael Flynn has a POST-election phone call with the Russian ambassador.  Flynn then lies about the phone call to the Vice President, for which Trump fires him.  Flynn also lied about it to the FBI, for which the FBI started to prosecute him.  We know that, whatever Flynn lied about had nothing to do with Russian hacking because Comey later distinguished between the two in his June testimony.

In Feb., Trump talks to Comey and “hopes” he can lay off the Flynn investigation.  Six weeks later, Trump asks Comey to correct the public record about the Russia investigation because of the negative impact on his ability to govern.  Comey blows him off.  Trump calls again eleven days later and Comey refuses, directing Trump to go through channels.  Trump at this point has ample reasonable justification to fire Comey.

Trump decided to fire Comey and asked AG Sessions to determine whether there where alternate bases to fire him.  Rosenstein, acting at the direction of AG Sessions, wrote the memo pointing out that, if Trump wanted to fire Comey, he had ample reason to do so merely because of Comey’s actions related to the Clinton investigation.  (What a travesty of justice that was.)  Trump fires Comey, first citing to the Rosenstein memo, then to his general dissatisfaction with the Russia investigation.

This part is confusing.  Rosenstein apparently appointed a special counsel because, in the progressive fever swamp of speculation, Flynn is knee deep in the Russian hacking (no evidence) and Trump’s firing of Comey could reasonably be seen as an effort to end the investigation of Russia hacking, in which it seems Flynn had no role anyway.  Moreover, Rosenstein’s involvement in Comey’s termination was on the completely uncontestable fact of the memo he wrote at Trump’s request.  That is ancillary at best to whether Trump fired Comey over the Flynn investigation, thus acting to “obstruct justice.”

Yet Rosenstein, in response to Comey’s overt manipulation of the legal system to appoint a special counsel, not only complied as to questions of obstruction, but Rosenstein gave the special counsel the power to conduct the entire Russia hacking investigation as a criminal matter aimed at Trump.

What the hell justifies that?  Anything?  Anything at all? Help me here.

Look up “men without chests” or “eunuch” in the dictionary and you should find a picture of Rosenstein.  What a nutless wonder.  This man is a living Ken doll, as devoid of man parts as Katlyn (nee Bruce, woman of the year 2016) Jenner.

It is hard to imagine a scenario more ridiculous, nor one more designed to damage the regime in power without any underlying facts to justify.  As Bookworm pointed out recently, if you are damned if you do and damned if you don’t, then do.  Trump should fire the special counsel, Robert Mueller, and most certainly the eunuch, Rod Rosenstein, explaining to the people exactly why he was doing so.  Let the progs and the media dial their hysteria up to 12, it doesn’t matter so long as Trump is able to explain his action to those who voted for him.  We are in a low grade civil war.  If the left succeeds in their goal of mortally injuring Trump with no legitimate justification, then we will be many steps closer to a real civil war.  Trump needs to act to protect the nation and the progressives from the foreseeable fruit of the progs’ groundless actions.
