Bernie the Red Part 1: Denmark, Sweden & “Democratic Socialism”

Since Bernie the Red appears to be the Democrat’s likely nominee at this point, absent DNC hijinks to steal the nomination from him, we need to understand what he means when he says “democratic socialism.”

From the 19 Feb., 2020 Nevada Democrat Debate:

BLOOMBERG: . . . It’s ridiculous. We’re not going to throw out capitalism. We tried. Other countries tried that. It was called communism, and it just didn’t work. . . .

SANDERS: . . .  Let’s talk about democratic socialism. Not communism, Mr. Bloomberg. That’s a cheap shot. Let’s talk about — let’s talk about what goes on in countries like Denmark, where Pete correctly pointed out they have a much higher quality of life in many respects than we do. . . .

What is Bernie the Red’s vision for this nation and what vision is he trying to sell us?  Are they the same?

There is far too much to discuss in a single post, so we will do this over multiple posts.  Let’s start with a lesson from Danish economist discussing “democratic socialism” in that country.

Another country Bernie often mentions as a model is Sweden, so let’s take a look at this Democrat Socialist paradise:

Hmmm, so are free-market economies with minimal regulation as a barrier to entry, no minimum wage, regressive taxes on the middle and lower-middle classes, protection of private property, school choice, and privatized social security the things Bernie has in mind?  We’ll address those questions in future posts.
