The Bookworm Thinker for 31 Oct. 2021

Welcome, all, on this date of 31 Oct.  Happy Halloween.  On this day:

Pre-Christian Ireland — the ancient Celts celebrated a three-day festival of Samhain beginning on this day, marking the end of the harvest season and the beginning of the darkest part of the year:

During the three-day celebration, it was believed that the barrier between humans and otherworldly spirits was broken. In the presence of otherworldly spirits, the Celts believed that priests could make accurate predictions about the future. During the festival, the Celts played tricks and pranks on one another and blamed them on mischievous fairies and spirits. Sacrifices of animals and crops were performed to appease Celtic deities. At the sacrificial bonfires, the Celts wore costumes, typically made from animal skins and heads, . . .

The Celts kept the custom, even after conversion to Christianity, and brought it to the new world when as part of their massive migration in the 18th and 19th centuries.  The Celts also kept an homage to their worship of the sun.  Papal approval of the Celtic cross, ringed with the sun, was an act of syncretism.

1517 — In one of the most consequential events in western history, on this day, the Reformation began when the Catholic monk, Martin Luther, posted his 95 Theses on the door of the castle church in Wittenberg.

Now on to the important part of this post.

The G20 photo-op that exposes Biden’s cataclysmic decline

The big G20 shindig in Rome highlights Biden’s cataclysmic decline. Unfortunately, as Joe goes, so go America’s fortunes and standing in the world.

On Saturday, the leaders of nineteen countries, plus the European Union, gathered in Rome to discuss leftist things: climate change, sustainable development, and how to keep the money flowing for these leftist boondoggles. Joe Biden, obviously, was an enthusiastic participant—although he did seem a little clueless about the climate change part, given that he brought with him to Rome an 85-vehicle motorcade (and no, that’s not a typo). . . .

The political prisoners of January 6

In 2020, BLM, Antifa, and opportunists rampaged through American cities, looting, burning, and assaulting and even murdering people. Leftists, including most major American corporations, contributed millions of dollars to various BLM funds, including funds to release those few who were arrested from prison. Most suffered minimal to no consequences. Meanwhile, nine months after the riot on January 6—which Tucker Carlson seems poised to expose once and for all as a false-flag operation—Americans who accepted the Capitol Police’s invitation to enter the Capitol are quite literally being tortured in prison.

The Conservative Treehouse has published a letter from Nathan DeGrave (originally in Brad Geyer’s Twitter thread relaying what DeGrave told him). DeGrave describes himself as “a non violent participant at the Jan 6th rally.” . . .
