The NIMBYs are at it again

This time they are in San Francisco, and their target is a proposed Starbucks.  Perhaps not surprisingly, they’re led by a local cafe owner who (ya think?) might have just a wee bit of a conflict of interest.   Hey, folks, if you don’t like a Starbucks in your neighborhood, then let it open, but don’t go there.  If nobody frequents the place it’ll close so fast it’ll make your head spin.  End of problem.

I’m reminded of the people who complain about the Wal-Mart moving into their town then, six months later, complain about the long lines at the Wal-Mart checkout.   And for some reason I’m reminded of the fans who boo as Barry Bonds comes to the plate, then cheer when he hits a home run.  It’s fashionable to oppose letting the free market operate, but, in the end, most of us vote with our pocketbooks and the market works just fine.
