Another reminder that Obama’s intelligence, which is real, is neither informed, nor deep, nor thoughtful. It’s the feral, manipulative intelligence of the sociopath. Clearly, in dealing with the Russians, he’s been out-sociopathed.

We spent half of the last century interacting with Russians in ways that cost us monumental treasure. It isn’t as if we can plead ignorance here.
The fact that Obama appears to trust the Russians is incomprehensible.
Interesting report on Fox News this AM…don’t know the woman doing the report – she’s from the Fox Business channel, which we don’t get – but she was saying that due to the severe drop in the price of oil, Russia is close to broke, just as it was during Reagan’s term. Her point was that IF Obama was smart about it and didn’t give away the store, he might get a very good deal. She said that the nuclear shields that Russia so opposes (and you have to consider the why of that!) in Eastern Europe wouldn’t be necessary if Iran was deprived of nuclear bombs – that we are attempting to protect countries from Iran, not Russia. (I’m not so sure of that, btw). And there’s no doubt that if we can strongarm Russia, they’ll take care of Iran in ways that we never would. If we can trust them, that is. And as you say…!
As usual, I don’t know enough to evaluate the information properly.
Still…the Russians can be dealt with because they’re rational. Not trustworthy, but rational – they want to live and prefer to live well. The Iranians want success in the next life (at least the Imams), not this life. Makes deals with them _very_ dicey. Not smart to make life or death deals with someone who doesn’t care if they give up their life.
If you truly trust in the kindness of strangers… and you believe that every stranger is just a friend you haven’t met yet… and you are certain that the sun’ll come out, tomorrow…
… then you will be entirely unprepared to deal with your friendly neighborhood psychopath. That’s the one who sees you essentially as a cardboard cutout, worthy only of manipulation. You will be harmed; you will avoid harm only if the benefits of harming you remain slightly outweighed by the benefits of manipulating you.
And you will never, ever be able to understand him (or her). He’s too unlike you, and you really don’t believe he could exist.
That’s what we face with those in power in Iran. We’ve got sunny-side-up Obama, who, for all his malignant narcissism, believes those in power in Iran can be reasoned with; that they can be traded with; that they are susceptible to his offers. They’re nothing of the sort. And Obama – as manipulative as he is – simply cannot conceive of that.
I wish I had a Commander-in-Chief who believed in Evil, with a capital ‘E’. Obama sees the worst evil (with a lower-case ‘e’) only when driving past a coal-burning plant’s smokestack.

The same was true of Jimmy Carter, by the way. Another thing our intellectuals Obama and Carter, unwise in the real world, share: They’re both brilliant at taking a wobbly American economy and utterly wrecking it within four years.
MikeD – when I was a university student, I was the unofficial keeper of a python in the university laboratory where I studied.
We used to feed it the “leftover” laboratory rats. We would drop the rats into the python cage and, of course, they had no idea of what kind of danger they were in. They had never seen a python before. The rats would calmly walk around the cage sniffing and exploring while the python slowly curled up into a strike position.
Death was instantaneous.
And, yes, the metaphors are entirely apt.
I sense a German influence in all this. The Steinmeier/Schroeder group has the ear of Obama, and their message is that they understand the Russian soul. This is why Steinmeier was grinning like a Cheshire cat during Obama’s Berlin visit. These two want nothing more to sit at the table with the big boys, and they are srong advocates of a multipolar world order.
Actually, Obama is acting true to form for a Liberal/Progressive/Lefty – love our enemies, hate your friends and fellow citizens.

It’s not that we hope Obama fails… we know he’s going fail. We hate all the misery to come before the American public accepts that failure.
We have to keep pointing out, as loudly and angrily as possible, the things Obama and the Dems are doing that guarantee failure down the road. We must have the courage of our convictions and state them loudly and clearly. And make it clear that our anger is because of the America that is being lost. We must not be silent, and we must not accomodate the Democrats and make mushy, spineless sounds about “how we are all Americans and we hope Obama succeeds.” That’s worthless pablum. That thug down the street that’s mugging old women is an American, too, and we know he’s bad for us. Let’s all speak up! And stand by our convictions.
And in the meantime, the Democrats, in control, will continue to play out the rope by which they will hang themselves. It’s only a matter of time. We know that what they’re doing is going to fail. Don’t join in with the failure; don’t tar yourself. Don’t tar your reputation by aiding and abetting. Speak out instead in favor of the things that you know will work. (Are you listening, Mr. Michael Steele?)
Dr. Sanity has a good post on the Dems becoming the party of shame culture (as compared to a guilt culture). I’d compare it to the parent scolding a child and “shaming” him, compared to an adult who views his own actions as wrong and feels guilty.

I had a superintendent do this to me once – I asked for information on a program, and she turned to me and said something to the effect of “I’ve already explained this 3 times – are you asking me to go through it _again_?” The scolding tone and body language very obviously was meant to shame me into saying “oh no…that’s ok” but I couldn’t. Lots had been said and lots of thoughts had been interrupted. I needed a summary explanation of what the program entailed. She went through it again. More and more, when I hear the scolding tones of the Democrat voices, I hear the same thing – “You don’t _really_ agree with Rush, do you?” So…we have to stop letting them make us feel “shamed” and speak up. Yes, I _do_ agree with Rush. No, I do _not_ think we should pay for everyone’s mortgage.
Don’t let them “shame” you!
