They don’t get the joke

What’s weird about this opening sketch from Saturday Night Live isn’t that it takes pot shots at Barack Obama’s attempts to micromanage American businesses. Nor is it weird that the dude doing the Obama impression isn’t very good. And, given that this is SNL, it’s certainly not weird that it’s not clever or funny. What’s weird is that the audience so totally didn’t get it. It’s clear from their response, which is neither enthusiastic nor hostile, that they have no idea what Obama-trait is being ridiculed. And that’s not just weird, it’s scary:

To add credence to your observation, the audience wouldn’t get this either.
It’s not that I don’t agree with the concept if your borrow/take money there should not be rules and regs that go along with it.
Silly me, I just thought that was the purpose of the stockholders to decide who stays, who goes.

I wonder if some of the reaction comes from a realization that this sort of thing is actually happening. The idea of the president taking over various businesses is so far out as to ludicrous: easy humor. Yet, the move from reality to spoof was so small, so very small. There may have been some uncomfortable realization of where our nation is heading.

(Ok…off topic, but this was as close as I could come to a place to put something funny…!)
I love visuals, suek and would love to see that check out cart.
Speaking of visuals…care to caption the one below. Seems timely since our great leader was in the neighborhood yesterday.

And that’s not just weird, it’s scary:
What’s scary about a tool that only does what you tell it to?
Now a tool that starts thinking for itself, now that’s scary.
I’m still working on the funny stuff…!
Ran across this site..”simply” very funny stuff. Sometimes in a very wry way.

And so a Republic is lost, not to death and destruction, but amidst cheers and celebration.
