Does Obama trip to Massachusetts presage Coakley’s failure?

The last and best word on the subject is that Obama is going to Massachusetts to bring his prestige to bear on the upcoming Massachusetts Senatorial election. You can hear Coakley confirm this, even as she makes the stunning statement — stunning considering that she’s hoping to represent Massachusetts in the United States Senate — that Curt Schilling, a former, and incredibly successful, Red Sox’s pitcher, is a Yankees fan:
I’ve decided that it’s a great thing that Obama is going to Massachusetts, because his track record is a good sign that his presence will be the kiss of death for the Coakley campaign. After all, when you think about it, since his election, nothing Obama has touched has succeeded. He did get his stimulus package, which seems to have trashed the economy. His next pet project, Cap and Trade, is dead-ended in the Senate. And while it’s still possible that Congress will burden us with ObamaCare, to date it does not go on the “accomplished” side of the Obama ledger.
More than that, whenever Obama has gone somewhere with his cap in hand, he’s been rebuffed. Remember the fanfare surrounding his trip to Copenhagen so that his prestige would sway the International Olympic Committee to award to 2016 Summer Olympics to Chicago? Obama may have gone there with his cap in hand, but he returned here with his tail between his legs, after the IOC gave him a humiliating rebuff by eliminating Chicago in the first round.
Undaunted, Obama returned to Copenhagen to spearhead an incredibly wonderful Climate Change summit that, his acolytes assured us, would see America carry the day on turning the clock back on Man-made Global Warming (ah, sorry, “Man-made Climate Change“). Again, Obama was rebuffed. Indeed, he was so soundly rebuffed that the Chinese premier canceled a meeting with him and Obama, unable to handle that with grace, tried to bully his way in to see the premier (a pathetic move his aides unconvincingly denied).
Here at home, Obama tried to lend his prestige to John Corzine’s campaign in New Jersey. Obama was also kind enough to try to give Craig Deeds a helping hand in Virginia. We know how those elections ended up — and that was when Obama was still slightly more ascendant in the polls than he is now.
When Obama goes begging, he comes up losing. His track record, therefore indicates that his presence at Coakley’s side will not help her. Instead, it may well mark her with a great big “L” in the middle of her forehead:

(By the way, although it’s completely irrelevant to this post, I want to address here David Frum’s smug argument that Scott Brown, the man conservatives across America are backing, is liberal in his politics. Frum has therefore concluded that only RINOs can run and win in national elections. With all due respect, Mr. Frum, that is a silly argument. Conservatives fully understand that Brown is fairly liberal, at least when it comes to some government programs. This liberality, while it may not be the average conservative’s cup of tea, means that Brown is electable in ultra-liberal Massachusetts. What matters to conservatives is that Brown is still infinitely more conservative than Coakley, not to mention being a more appealing human being. Even more importantly, if elected, he will do something true conservatives deeply desire: stop ObamaCare.)

So far what I’ve seen is Obama is selling, a vote for Coakley is a vote for him to keep his agenda.” That seems to be a risky move as a loss for Coakley would be a slap to him and his unpopular agenda. So here’s hoping a Brown win that will chill the Obamabacle.
Obama-Wan Kenobi pulls up in the car with Luke, R2 and C3Po to the stormtroopers.
Stormtrooper: “Hmmm. Two robots that match the description. Please step out of the car, sir.”
Obama-Wan waves his hand a bit, and says, “These are not the droids you’re looking for.” He settles back into the seat, smugly.
The stormtrooper pauses for a second. ”What?”
Obama-Wan blinks and waves his hand again. ”These are not the droids you’re looking for.”
“Come again? Why are you repeating yourself?”
“These are NOT the droids you’re looking for!”
“Yes they are!”
“No they’re not!”
“Yes they are!” The stormtrooper drags Obama-Wan out of the vehicle.
Obama-Wan, struggling, waving his hands. ”The best solution is to spread the wealth!”
“You’re one crazy nut!”
“The economy is turning the corner. We are gathering momentum!” They’ve dragged him half way to the Lucas Paddy Wagon.
“My entire family is out of work. The cantina is closed and all those freaky-lookin’ drunks are on the street corners harassing the townspeople. And you say we’re turning the corner? You’re really starting to piss me off!” They start to shove him into the back seat of the wagon.
“But I’m here to help elect Princess Leia to the Senate!” The door slams, they drive away.
Luke looks at the droids. ”Wow… if Obama-Wan Kenobi really is her last hope, she’s in trouble, R2!”
R2 beeps back at him mournfully.
The 212 member Cambridge Police Patrol Officers Association voted to endorse State Senator Scott Brown for United States Senator in next Tuesday’s election against Attorney General Martha Coakley. CPSOA’s President released the following letter today:
All Members,
Members of our Association have inquired and requested that we endorse Scott Brown in the upcoming election against Martha Coakley. Ms. Coakley along with some of her campaign workers have talked publicly about how her husband is a retired Cambridge Police Officer, giving appearances that she is being endorsed by the Cambridge Police. This may be an innocent insinuation but most do take this as our giving her our support and endorsement. Yesterday, the CPPOA Executive Board voted to endorse State Senator Scott Brown in the upcoming election for US Senate. In an 11 to 2 vote, the Executive Board voted overwhelmingly in favor of the endorsement. We do not endorse anyone who advocates changes in the health care that take away any bargaining rights or increases our cost along with our contributions. Senator Brown does not support the Comprehensive Healthcare Reform Bill and promises to be the 41st vote to ensure its defeat. The current leadership at the state house, as we all know and have seen over the past two years, have an agenda to dismantle all of our hard earned bargained benefits and they will continue to dismantle these until there is a complete change from the top down. Martha Coakley is part of this Massachusetts leadership and she will continue with this agenda, only now it will be at the capital level and we need to stop it. So today, we the members of the Cambridge Police Patrol Officers Association endorse Scott Brown for the senate seat vacated by Senator Kennedy.
Fraternally,
Stephen Killion
President Cambridge Police
Patrol Officers Association.

Undoubtedly the POTUS will reply that the Cambridge Police Patrol Officers Association acted stupidly in endorsing Brown. Do you think the POTUS’s remark last summer had anything to do with that endorsement? Just maybe?
The Coakely campaign is trying to spin the Red Sox remark as a “very deadpan” joke. This is reminiscent of the spin that Anita Dunn put on her Mao remark : that she was speaking ironically. That explanation was total nonsense to anyone who had seen the philosopher Mao video.
Instead of a “very deadpan” joke, Coakely’s “Chuck is a Yankees fan” remark is simply in line with her lame attack ads. If Coakely had any political instincts in her, she would have said something as follows when Chuck Schilling, he of the bloody sock, was brought up: “While Chuck Schilling and I disagree on politics, I and all Sox fans will never forget the courage and determination that Chuck showed in helping bring the first World Series Championship to the Sox in 86 years.” You don’t have to be a Tip O’Neill to realize that there is no political gain in attacking a Red Sox icon in Massachusetts, especially by calling him a Yankees fan. It’s like someone in Vatican City calling the Pope a Muslim. Or calling an Ayatollah a Jew or a Christian.
BTW, there are some Yankee fans in far western Massachusettes: Coakely’s hometown of North Adams is only 10 miles from the NY state line. Given her origins, there exists the possibility Coakely may be a secret Yankees fan, a marrano in the heart of Red Sox Nation.

Let’s hope the voters strike her out at Tuesday’s ball game. I had forgotten that Mr. Stuck on Stupid and his beer party antics were linked to Cambridge. Thanks for the reminder.
