What the Slaughter option is, and how it will slaughter American democracy and decency

Kim Priestap explains. This one is definitely worth reading. We are witnessing mob rule, with the bizarre twist that the mob is the government itself.
And Michael Ramirez, with one picture, has the last, best word.

Book, that Michael Ramirez cartoon is great, Thanks! After the brief moment to “get it”, instant belly laugh!
As to the Slaughter Solution:
- The Democrat leadership is hell-bent on passing Obamacare. No Matter What.
The Democrats began with – let me be generous – a reasonable mechanism for passing ObamaCare. Up or down votes. It proved unworkable.
So they retreated a step and began to bargain. Unworkable.
They then resorted to bribes. It fell apart.
Scott Brown got elected, losing the filibuster-proof majority. Suddenly, the nuclear option came into vogue among Democrats, and the filibuster was touted as “Un-American”. This fell apart.
The Democrats fell back to Reconciliation. It’s proving unworkable.
So now we have the Slaughter Solution. Step by step, the Democrats are being forced back into unsavory and even corrupt legislative processes. Every step of the way, they’re serious about it, too. They Will Stop At Nothing.
This is a classic moment in political history, in that it is a perfect illustration of “the end justifies the means”. It truly does not matter to the Democrats, at all, HOW they pass ObamaCare. Only that they pass it. This is a classic, perfect rendition of the principle of “The End Justifies The Means”.
And anyone who is political, on either side of any debate, who has in their groups, say in an evening over coffee, beers or drinks, discussed the principle of”The End Justifies The Means”, comes to the conclusion that it must be rejected as un-American. Don’t we always reject it? But the Democrat leadership has taken their party to this point. How sad it is.
So, suppose the Slaughter Solution fails. As bizarre and thoroughly un-American as the Slaughter Solution is… there would then be a follow-on attempt, even more egregiously monstrous than *it*. What will they think of as the next step? What do you all think they would try next?
Can you help explain how that works? Here’s the relevant text:
it works like this: The speaker brings a bill containing a list of changes that the House wants to make to the Senate bill to the floor for a vote. When the House members vote for and pass this list of changes to the Senate bill, the House will deem the Senate bill as passed as well, even though the Senate bill itself was never voted on to begin with.
Apparently Pelosi feels comfortable enough calling for the vote next week because she’s been pretty successful peeling away enough of Stupak’s bloc.
OK, I see that it means that the Senate Bill passes the House, and simultaneously a set of changes – a new Bill – passes in the House as well.
But the “new Bill” has not passed in the Senate, hasn’t gone to sub-committee, etc. Only the Senate Bill has passed both houses. So *that* is the only bill, at this time, that the President could sign. And these House Democrats do not accept that bill.
So how does this create an ObamaCare bill, passed by both houses, that would be acceptable to the Democrats? I don’t get it. Wouldn’t the Senate then have to vote to accept the House “new Bill”? And then couldn’t the President simply sign the Senate Bill and get what *he* wants? It just seems to be unworkable – meaning there’s something about this arcane maneuver I don’t understand. Help!
Reads like the House is trying to overthrow the Senate! Your final word sums it up – HELP!!!
We certainly do need help. Maybe a nice big steam shovel to remover all the manure and those who produce it out of Washington.
Assuming the Slaughter Option fails to get health care “passed”, I think the Libs will devolve all the way to complete childhood. They will believe that the health care bill has been passed because they want it. It does not need a vote. They want it. Ergo, it is passed. The “logic” of the Slaugther Optoin is based in childlike thinking. They just have to go all the way.
An to think we have to wait until November 2nd.

A few sentences from an article that I found interesting.
First, another one of Pelosi’s “inevitability rumblings” went out yesterday, that the vote was going to occur next week! It will happen! Inevitable! The CrazyWoman does this over and over.
But today I read this:
The White House seemed to back away from its earlier insistence that Congress act by March 18. “If it takes a couple extra days after a year” of struggles, presidential spokesman Robert Gibbs said Thursday, then “it takes a couple extra days.”
Technically, the vote could then occur March 19, which is next Friday, and Pelosi could still preserve her latest silly statement. Not likely. Another Grand Pronouncement Dead On Arrival. The vote likely will *not* happen next week. Will she never learn? I don’t believe one word that comes out of that mouth.
And then there’s this:
Gibbs also said Obama was pushing the Senate to remove some of the special deals that remain in the legislation.
One, championed by Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus, D-Mont., would provide Medicare benefits to residents of tiny Libby, Mont., who suffer from asbestos-related illnesses from a now-closed mining operation. The other, sought by Sen. Christopher Dodd, D-Conn., could spend $100 million to build a hospital at the University of Connecticut.
“We’ve made it clear to the Senate that the president’s position in the final legislation should not contain provisions that favor a single state or a single district differently than others,” Gibbs said.
The request drew a chilly response from senators. Jim Manley, spokesman for Reid, said the leader’s office “appreciates the White House views, but no decisions have been made.”
Democratic leaders must resolve several more issues before presenting a final package to their colleagues and the public.
So, there are “a number of issues remaining”. Problems with the Senate Bills bribes and favors that the House detests. The Senate giving a very “chilly reception” to their little bribes, kickbacks and favors being stripped. What all this means is that the Democrats need more time to figure this out. And Time is precisely what keeps derailing their efforts. They try to slam something through quickly – then they need time – and the People find out just enough, during that time of frantic Democrat scrambling, to discover what detestable bull-crap the Democrats are trying to pull *this time*, and the current effort collapses.
I’m not fearing any bill passed until it passes. And then, even at that point, the fight simply continues, on to the 2010 elections. They say a month in politics is an eternity; well, we’ve got six months until the 2010 elections.
Democracy is always interesting as a gateway to oligarchy because of how majority votes work. If 51% of the total body decides issues, then one has to ask who decides where that 51% will go. The answer is obvious: the majority of the 51% decides where things will go.
By pealing the onion effect this way, you get to smaller and more exclusive inner circles the more “layers” you get rid of. Eventually, a democratic system based upon majority rules, 51% of votes decide issues, eventually devolves or evolves to an oligarchy where 3 people vote and their majority then represents the absolute 51% majority of everybody. Because of how human hierarchies work. Each triumvirate represents numerous group leaders and majorities, who represent the majorities of even broader and all encompassing populations.
Either way you cut it, up or down, outside the onion or start inside the onion, the effect is the same. Democracy ultimately leads to the rule of the few: that is the essential product of the logic behind democracy. It suits the Democrats to be called Democrats in the end.
Read this. Pass it on. Compare it to what has changed in the USA over the last 50 years.
