B Hussein O tries his first coup

Am I suffering from historical amnesia, or is this the first time in American history that an administration has made a coup attempt against an ally?

The administration of President Barack Obama has launched what officials termed a psychological warfare campaign meant to topple Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu.

Sources in the Obama Administration and the US Congress have confirmed to the Middle East Newsline that the White House and State Department have sought to destabilize Netanyahu’s government by forcing him to agree to an indefinite freeze on Jewish construction in areas taken by Israel in the wake of the 1967 war as well as the establishment of a Palestinian state by 2012. They said the campaign sought to replace Netanyahu with opposition leader and former foreign minister Tsipi Livni.

“Bibi is extremely vulnerable to pressure,” a source familiar with the White House effort said. “We know this from his first term in office and believe he will collapse this time as well.”

The sources said the administration’s strategy aimed to delegitimize Netanyahu in his government and right-wing constituency. They said Obama and his aides have sought to portray Netanyahu as a weak and unstable politician who will destroy relations with Washington as Israel seeks U.S. support for a military option against Iran.

“There seems to be a general belief in the circle around the president that the democratically-elected government in Israel is drunk at the wheel,” Steven Rosen, a veteran pro-Israeli lobbyist now with the Middle East Forum, said. “They clearly will use pressure tactics to bring Israel around.”

If you have the stomach for it, you should read the rest here.

I’m not up to the task of commenting, especially since I have some carpooling to do.  But I will say that this is one of those rare moments where I thought an emesis basin might be a necessary accompaniment to my reading.

This is wrong, this is wrong, this is wrong.  Again, this administration is showing it is truly aligned with the Muslim nations.  We will long regret our betrayal of Israel.

Kim Jong Il, Osama bin Laden and their ilk can inflict significant short-term damage on America, but for long-term damage to America and other freedom-loving nations, B Hussein Obama is now unquestionably the most dangerous man in the world.

The world of Israel does not revolve around Bibi or Tzipi and certainly not around Mr. Stinky. There are forces and desires that exist beyond this creep-in-office. He is, as always, on the wrong side of history. If he plans on opening a can of worms, he had best be prepared to eat them.

Israel Land Fund group intends to expand Jewish Jerusalem.
Despite immense international pressure to halt Jewish construction in east Jerusalem and in all areas over the Green Line, Israel Land Fund founder Aryeh King on Sunday presented a plan that would see nearly 200,000 new housing units created there.
Speaking at a conference at the Menachem Begin Heritage Center to discuss future development initiatives in the capital, King described a plan that would use privately owned land and property belonging to the Jewish National Fund to provide roughly 187,000 new homes in east Jerusalem, E-1 (between Jerusalem and Ma’aleh Adumim) and a chain of territory extending from Ramallah to Bethlehem.
“If Jerusalem doesn’t expand, and expand eastward, it will become the Gaza Strip,” King said.
Using a blown-up map of the city and its surrounding areas, King showed the audience where hundreds of dunams of land outside the northern Pisgat Ze’ev neighborhood could contain roughly 12,000 new housing units.
Around the southern Gilo neighborhood, King said, “there is enough similar land to build 60,000 units.”
“There are 800 dunams [80 hectares] in E-1, owned by a wealthy, Jewish philanthropist, that could prove room enough for 100,000 housing units,” King said. “The potential is enormous.”
King’s vision faces a number of obstacles, among them the area’s large Palestinian population, who claim the territory for a future Palestinian state.
While King stressed that much of the land was “empty and unused” property, redrawing Jerusalem’s municipal boundaries to include such areas would drastically affect the city’s demographics, though he didn’t seem perturbed.
“I’m ready and willing to bring 200,000 [additional] Arabs into [a wider municipal boundary of] Jerusalem,” King told the audience. “As long as there are 800,000 Jews that come with them.”
Another problem is the current freeze on Jewish housing starts in Judea and Samaria, and the de facto building freeze in east Jerusalem, which the city’s politicians have been hard-pressed to acknowledge over recent weeks.
Ever since the approval of 1,600 new housing units in Ramat Shlomo was announced during US Vice President Joe Biden’s visit in March, sparking a diplomatic row with Washington over construction even within Jerusalem, all government bodies dealing with such building plans have either refrained from meeting or addressed only minor projects.
While King’s plan allows for some leeway in this area, as much of the property in question is privately owned and within the Jerusalem municipal boundaries – any projects outside those boundaries and over the Green Line would need Defense Ministry approval.
“The state will eventually have to become involved,” King acknowledged on Sunday. “But the fact remains, Jerusalem must grow, and these are prime areas for it to grow into.”

Especially not having the script in front of me, I can’t do it justice, but this reminds me of a great scene from a pretty good movie.  Always.  1989.  Richard Dreyfuss, Holly Hunter, et al..  In a nutshell, it’s the scene where Ted (Brad Johnson) is presented with a can’t-miss opportunity to woo the very beautiful Rachel (Marg Helgenberger).  He doesn’t blow it… he blows it to smithereens.  Having missed a series of neon-lit clues, Ted is utterly clueless that Rachel is completely smitten with him.  He tells her that he believes in love at first sight, and that he thinks it’s happened to him.  She is visibly on Cloud 9.  Until it becomes clear that he is talking about another woman.  Crestfallen, she excuses herself and leaves.  Ted remains completely clueless to all that has just happened, wondering why Rachel left.

“You know, Ted,” says Pete (Richard Dreyfuss) delicately in dry understatement, “I don’t think I’ve ever seen that particular approach before.”

I think of that line when I see things like this.  For those who were already our enemies, bowing and sucking up, with none but negative effect.  For those who used to be our allies, ensuring that they change to the other list.  Running interference while apocalyptic lunatics refine uranium.  Doing everything in his power to cripple an economy that he will need to get re-elected.  Encouraging his congressional allies to begin major new legislative campaigns and then abruptly cutting them off and leaving them hanging.  I don’t think I’ve ever seen that particular approach before.

At some point, he will have made enemies of everyone.  A tragic defeat as an introspective human drama, but a great victory as a morality play.

I’m not entirely sure how broadly to interpret the verse in question, but Dennis Prager wrote an interesting little piece recently on America’s relationship with Israel.  His money is on Israel.  On that, I think he’s right.

“Am I suffering from historical amnesia, or is this the first time in American history that an administration has made a coup attempt against an ally?”
Ngo Dinh Diem, 1963 – President of  South Vietnam, coup and execution engineered by Democrat  Kennedy Administration.
Shah of Iran, 1979 – coup facilitated by Democrat Carter Administration.
Republic of South Vietnam and Kingdoms of Cambodia and Laos. Military overthrow of countries after failure of Democrat Congress to authorize air cover and military aid, in violation of treaties with said governments.
As Kissinger remarked about our country when the Democrats are in power, “It may be dangerous to be America’s enemy, but to be America’s friend is fatal”.

Israel will survive, I think, because Obama is probably less dangerous as an enemy than a friend.
Certainly, he seems to be waking up America to what we need to do (which is throw out the Socialists and get America back to some personal responsibility and self-reliance).  We are going through tough times (mostly due to the policies he and his friends have implemented) but I think he may finally show us the stark choice between a future of socialism and economic freedom.
Obviously, I am assuming here that Obama is the enemy of both Israel and America but maybe his attacks on both will be impetus for real change.
He seems to love Cuba and Venezuela and they are doing real well, aren’t they.
Personnally, he makes it easy to make decisions.  Any policy he proposes, any idea he supports, I oppose until I research it and make up my mind.  So far, he’s batting a thousand with me.
Hopefully, after 2012 he can move on to something he’s qualified for, like being a MSNBC commentator or a community organizer for a town with a population of 10 people no one likes.

This reminds me of when the Left and their Democrat allies authorized Diem’s assassination in South Vietnam. The best popular leader and the best statesmen the Vietnamese had, was wiped out not by his NOrth Vietnamese allies but by so called friendly Americans.

Upon some more thought, we shouldn’t overlook Obama’s attempted enforce a coup in Honduras which, while not formally an ally, is was certain a friend to us during the Sandinista war in Nicaragua.

Some brilliant online columnist made a similar — though narrower — point not too long ago.  In a nutshell, the really bad agreements that Israel allows itself to get suckered into, wherein they typically trade their very scarce land away for empty promises, are usually brokered by the US when US-Israeli relations are friendliest (and there’s a soft-headed Israeli PM).  The Palestinians quickly renege, but the Israelis are stuck with permanently smaller borders.  Sorry, can’t find it, though.

Agreed, and maybe even a job acting (bit player)  but when he leaves, he goes with the full (?) knowledge of state secrets.  I have bemoaned the fact that he is just the current face of the snake. I understand that with some species, you can cut off the rattler and it will grow back – the Fort Hood murders attest to the fact that there are nests of them.

p.s. Thanks, again to Spartacus. I hope that Bibi doesn’t disappoint. Benyamin, with emphasis on the last two syllables, which translates to ‘right’.
