    At one time, race did not refer to skin color or physical traits as we think do today. Race simply meant group or grouping. Jonathon Swift, I believe once complianed in a letter about “this current race of lawyers.” Race based upon skin coloration, hair texture, nose structure, and so on are constructs from the late 19th century that Socialists seized upon to gain power. To Swift, and indeed to Mark Twain, it was entirely possible for a race of bald men to exist regardless of skin color or continental origin simply because those particular men lacked hair on their heads.
