Must-read about the war the Left refuses to admit we’re waging *UPDATED*

That war, of course, is the United States of America (and all the freedoms for which it stands) versus Sharia.  After you’ve read this Andrew McCarthy article summarizing Newt’s speech to the American Enterprise Institute, you may want to link to it at your own blog, tweet it, email it to friends, or use whatever other social networks you have available.

UPDATE:  McCarthy took Newt’s ideas and ran with them.  Now Roger Kimball takes McCarthy’s ideas and runs with them.  You know how I feel on the subject.

    You’ve almost got this right.

It is the war between the minority of the people in the United States who are not in the ruling class vs. the radical Islamists who would impose sharia on the US and the despicable ruling democrat party class who would gleefully assist them.

As is often the case with these types of articles, the lettes are most insightful.

What bothers me is that even an event like 9/11 couldn’t wake up a large portion of our electorate to the threat. Instead, they they preferred to react with a) denial (the Jihadis were “crazy”), b) conspiracy theories (Bush did it!), c) self-hate (our support for Israel and our “empire” of domination, d) delusion (Islam means “peace”) or submission (If we become more like them they will like us). In sum, far too many people bent over backwards to convince themselves that there is no mortal threat that might disturb the comfortable bubble of their lives.

So, if 9/11 couldn’t wake them up, what will? A nuke attack?

The Left does not deny the threat of Islam so much as secretly desire that Islam will assist them in destroying our political system and social structure.  They (the Left) bellieve that they would then be able to sieze power.  They are both arrogant enough to assume that they can outwit the Islamo-fascists in the aftermath of collapse of America and stupid enough to believe that Islamists don’t really want to conquer us and will contentedly accept the creation of a atheist, collectivist America.

This is the same thinking that led the Left to reflexively support every Communist attack against the only effective defender of freedom (the US) during the Cold War.  Allowing the Soviet conquest of Eastern Europe, applauding the Communist takeover in China, aiding the Communist conquest of Vietnam (remember the scorn for the “domino theory” which was conveniently forgotten after the fall of Vietnam was followed by Communist takeovers in Laos and Cambodia), the support for the “freedom-loving” Sandinistas in Nicarauga, Chavez-love from Oliver Stone to Obama, re-casting Che as a Jesus-like savior and happy-go-lucky motorcycle tourist, support for Castro bringing happiness (and great health care) to Cuba, support for the attempted coup in Honduras, etc. etc. etc.

The enemy of my enemy is my friend is the Left’s mantra.  Anyone who attacks America is the ally of the Left.  They have not yet succeeding in destroying America from within (despite their best efforts for the last 90 years) but they are certain that if someone, anyone, can bring America to its knees, that they can use that defeat to take power.

American Leftists were certain that Moscow would welcome them with open arms and let them rule America (as is their right, due to their superior intellect) when most would have immediately been shot (their role as “useful idiots” being no longer necessary).  They now cling to a similar delusion concerning their Islamo-fascist allies, certain that they only seek the destruction of the West (meaning the US), not its conquest.

The Left has always been “blinded by their malice” unable to see past their goal of the destruction of America.  They assume that once this is accomplished that everything will fall in place for their triumphant ascent to power.

If Islamo-fascism is defeated, the American Left will move on to champion whatever ideology seems to represent the greatest threat to our Republic (as they did after the collapse of Soviet communism doomed their alliance with those who had sworn to “bury us”).

America will not conquer Islam but Islamo-fascism may collapse as a result of the barbarism exhibited toward other Muslims if we can prevent them (the Islamofascists) from developing the momentum of victory.  This same approach (containment, not conquest) led to the collapse of Soviet Communism.  Hitler would have similarly collapsed if European pusillianimity had not allowed him a string of victories (Ruhr, Sudetenland, Anchloss, etc.) that silenced the opposition and made him seem invicible.

A house divided can stand for an extended period of time, however, eventually the contradictions and conflicts resulting from the Left’s desire to rule serfs (to use Hayek’s term) and the majority of American’s desire to live as free people will have to be resolved.  The hatred the Left feels for America (and the majority of Americans) will at some point become so obvious (even with the constant disinformation campaign of the media and the educational establishment) that we will either surrender and acquiese to our nation’s, and our own, destruction or we will rise up to reject and neutralize the enemy in our midst.

The catalyst for this decision point cannot be forseen and may be relatively innocuous.  The election of Lincoln represented little threat to slave-holding interests.  Lincoln was not a radical and, while, personally hostile to slavery, was neither able nor willing to use force to end slavery.  Only after 3 years of war did he issue the Emancipation Proclamation (which only applied to the states in rebellion).  Will the election of a conservative majority in Congress lead to violence by the Left out of frustration over a setback when their triumph seemed so close?  What would be the outcome of an attempted coup to prevent the reversal of the progress toward socialism of the last two years?  Would the average American stand up and defend the Republic or allow its destruction?

We cannot know what tough decisions we will face in the near future.  Decisions that will require us to balance our own comfort and safety against the freedom we now seem to take for granted.  However, it is clear to me that gradual changes can only proceed to a certain point, a “tipping” point if you will.  When a tipping point is reached, either the trend becomes a avalanche or reaction produces a reversal.  Will the current trend toward the “corporate state,” aka fasism or national socialism, continue in America or will individual Americans, unorganized but united by a belief in our Constitution and the Republic, reject their assigned role as “serfs” and demand a return to the principles that made our country prosperous and powerful?  This decision cannot be long delayed.  Either we reverse course soon or our Republic, and our way of life, is gone forever.  Mr Franklin, when asked what form of government was chosen by the founding fathers, replied “A republic, if you can keep it!”  He was speaking not to his contemporaries but to us.  Those of us alive today will decide the fate of our nation and of freedom for all mankind for the next era.  If we falter, the forces of totalitarianism will triumph, either Islamic or Atheist, theocratic or socialist.  It matters little to the serf whether their masters claim power based on the “divine right of kings,” the “will of the people,” or the Caliphate.  To paraphrase Tolstoy, free societies are each free in their own way, unfree societies are all alike.

Will the election of a conservative majority in Congress lead to violence by the Left out of frustration over a setback when their triumph seemed so close?

I hope that you aren’t placing too much faith in a potential conservative majority in Congress after the November election. First, the Dems have quite a few more (dirty) tricks to play in order to sway the November election (Chicago, which is a one-party fascist state, has provided a good proving ground for this).

If it does happen, it is unlikely that a conservative congressional majority will be  a veto-proof majority and it will certainly not be able to stop Obama’s issuance of Executive Orders or otherwise undermining the country by placing his minions into positions of power (as well as personnel decision making) throughout the Federal bureaucracy. Finally, a conservative majority will provide the Democrat Left (a redundancy, I know) with a perfect foil with which to avoid taking responsibility for the disaster that is already unfolding.

Also, should some mishap fall upon a conservative member of the Supreme Court, it will truly be a total and complete coup of the institutions of the United States.

I am not recounting these points out of  a sense of doom and gloom, but more as a warning that we are still at  a very early stage in this grand battle for the future of our country and our Constitution. Perhaps the best way that we can fight them at this point is to shine a bright light on just who they are and what they do. I get the very uneasy feeling that the American people are still in a very deep slumber and that, for now, we are primarily preaching to ourselves.

There are two components here. Free will, based upon belief, and power to change.

Even if they believed and thus started acting against the Left of their own free will, it doesn’t mean they have the power to change any of their circumstances. So it’s a cult. If they wake up, so what? They’re still in the cult, cut off from all contact outside. The cult leader has the power to change, but he doesn’t believe it is necessary. You can get the guillible lower initiates to wake up and smell the matrix, but they don’t necessarily have the power to do anything afterwards.

Danny said…”What bothers me is that even an event like 9/11 couldn’t wake up a large portion of our electorate to the threat”
’tis true. But I wonder if there might be a lot of people who really perceive, at some level, the seriousness of the threat that we face..but repress the knowledge below the conscious level.
In Arthur Koestler’s 1950 novel “The Age of Longing,” Europe is facing the imminent threat of a massive Soviet attack. A young American woman, talking with a senior French security official, expresses her dismay that few people seem to take the threat seriously. Here is his response:
No, Mademoiselle, don’t be misled by appearances. France and what else is left of Europe may look like a huge dormitory to you, but I assure you nobody in it is really asleep. Have you ever spent a night in a mental ward? During the Occupation, a doctor who belonged to our group got me into one when the police were after me. It was a ward of more or less hopeless cases, most of whom were marked down for drastic neurosurgical operations. When the male nurse made his round, I thought everybody was asleep. Later I found out that they were only pretending, and that everybody was busy, behind closed eyes, trying to cope after his own fashion with what was coming to him. Some were pursuing their delusions with a happy smile, like our famous Pontieux (a philosopher modelled on Sartre–ed). Others were working on their pathetic plans of escape, naively hoping that with a little dissimulation, or bribery, or self-abasement, they could get around the tough male nurses, the locked doors, the operating table. Others were busy explaining to themselves that it wouldn’t hurt, and that to have holes drilled into one’s skull and parts of one’s brain taken out was the nicest thing that could happen to one. And still, others, the quiet schizos who were the majority, almost succeede in making themselves believe that nothing would happen, that it was all a matter of exaggerated rumours, and that tomorrow would be like yesterday. These looked as if they were really asleep. Only an occasional nervous twitch of their lips or eyes betrayed the strain of disbelieving what they knew to be inevitable…No, Mademoiselle nobody was really asleep.

The book from which the quote in my comment above was taken, Arthur Koestler’s “The Age of Longing,” is IMO indispensable for anyone thinking seriously about what has happened to–and continues to happen to–our society. I have a long review essay on this neglected but important novel of ideas here:

The problem as I see it, is that every time there is a problem, the American People (on the average) demand that the government do something to fix the problem.  And the Democrats are only too happy to oblige.  They immediately satisfy that demand by increasing the size, scope, and POWER of the national government.  Every time.   That’s the modus operandi, and it works with tremendous, daunting effect.

It is the culture that has to be changed first, so that the government’s expected role is minimal.  That’s why I fear that the lack of a GOP message, three months before the election, means that there will be no culture-changing message.  It will simply be more of the same:  The American People demanding the government do EVERYTHING to fix the problem, and the GOP incapable of resisting that tide.  It’s why we’ve never been able to reduce the size, scope and power of the national government, even under Reagan.  The message, and the culture change, has to occur.

Andrew McCarthy writes, Our allies are the Muslims who embrace our freedom culture — those for whom sharia is a matter of private belief, not public mission. Our enemies are those who want sharia to supplant American law and Western culture. When we call out the latter, and marginalize them, we may finally energize the former.

I fully agree. But how can anyone trust an adherent of a religion that sanctions lying, whose god commands lying under promise of everlasting hell and torture as opposed to Paradise with its everlasting delights?

  • http://ymarsakar.wordpress.com Ymarsakar

Become as powerful as their God such that they give equal merit to your position. It’s easy to trust people to look out for their own best interests. Because it’s predictable which side they will pick in the power struggle. They will pick the side that they think is more powerful and has a higher chance of winning. That can be Allah’s side or our side or the Left’s side or any other of supreme power.

“the American People (on the average) demand that the government do something to fix the problem.  And the Democrats are only too happy to oblige.”

Some of those American People don’t even know who is in government. They don’t know enough to decide anything. It is the Democrat party that demands more power and more government. The ignorant are happy to oblige them if it means they get benefits and a share of the loot.

Most Americans don’t vote or at least aren’t political specialists. That means they don’t know enough about politics to make an informed decision. They make choices based upon the news or based upon what their friends tell them.

What garyp said. The Left refuses to admit we’re waging war against Islam -> with that action they’re assisting our enemy. And this assistance is not because the Left is stupid, this assistance is on purpose. The Left has an alliance with our enemy, which makes the Left guilty of treason. The only logical conclution is that we have to defeat the Left.
