Stupidity or an elaborate head fake?

Inexplicably, the US Ambassador in Ankara seems to have endorsed the ruling AKP party in Turkey’s upcoming elections. This is inexplicable because the AKP is Islamist, anti-American and antisemitic (but other than that, it’s a great party). My multiple choice question for you:
(1) Was this pure stupidity?
(2) Is Obama doing a favor for his new best friend, Erdogan, the Islamist, anti-American and antisemitic leader of the AKP?
(3) Is this an elaborate head fake that tries to trick an anti-America population into doing the opposite of what the Americans recommend (so that they’ll vote for the opposition party, not the American-recommended AKP)?
I’m inclined to favor choice number 2.

Answer No. 3 assumes two facts not in evidence: 1.) That the Turks are stupid enough to be tricked by an American head fake and 2.) that the Obama administration is smart enough to perform a head fake.
Obama’s head up his arse. The only fake he is going to be doing is masquerading as a donkey in front of the world.
Ymar, does Barney Fwank know about this?
Check in with his live in boyfriend. Probably knows more.
I would posit that given the current US Ambassador’s personal and professional history, he’s gone over from representing us to them, and views his job as representing them to us.
