Deaf woman hears

I hear ads for Esteem on the radio all the time. Now I know that it really works:

That was just beautiful. I want to go on a rant about politicizing health care, about making villains of drug/med companies, but I will behave.

Now we just need to take her to a tattoo removal parlor and she is set. . .

Just a point of curiosity, of course. Many of the commentators question whether this is real or fake on the basis of the formerly deaf person’s ability to understand the nurse so well.

    I don’t question that.

What I do question is how this woman is able to articulate English so well with a clear accent, if indeed she had been deaf all this time. My own experience with deaf people would suggest that she should have nowhere near the clarity of articulation expressed in that video.

Can anybody clarify this for me?

Monsieur Lemieux — For what it’s worth, that was my first reaction, too.

If you watch the videos of those who have had this device implanted you will see that not all hearing loss is from birth.  Rush is deaf and he does not have the telltale vocal traits of many deaf EG Marlee Matlin.
