Cultivating a “deep” post Open Thread

I’m working on a “deep” post, one full of meaning, with multiple citations.  I also have errands to run.  Until I get to the computer and have my post written out, consider this space yours (subject, of course, to the usual rules of courtesy, etc.).

Harbingers (pun intended) of regime change — watch the fates of:
    1) Falcone
    2) Corzine
    3) Holder

A pawn, a rook, and a queen.  You can sacrifice the first, whereas losing a castle cripples your defense; but give up the last and you’re looking at checkmate.

As an historical aside, Corzine is this generation’s Richard Whitney and should suffer the same fate.

I watched the ABC debate this evening.
I wasted two hours of my life. The dynamic team of George & Diane (gag here) managed to turn the debate into a 2-hour version of The View.

“Late again!” the third-grade teacher sternly said to little Ranger.
“It ain’t my fault this time, Miss Russell. You can blame this ‘un on my Daddy. The reason I’m three hours late is my Daddy sleeps naked!”
Now, Miss Russell had taught grammar school for thirty-some-odd years. Despite her mounting fears, she asked little Ranger what he meant by that. Full of grins and mischief, and in the flower of his youth, little Ranger and trouble were old friends,…… but he always told her the truth.
“You see, Miss Russell, out at the farm we got this here low down fox. The last few nights, he done ate six hens. Last night, when Daddy heard a noise out in the chicken pen, he grabbed his double barreledshot gun and said to my Ma, “That fox is back again… I’m a gonna git him!”
“Stay back,” Daddy whispered to all us kids!
“My Daddy was naked as a jaybird — no boots, no pants, no shirt! To the hen house he crawled, just like an Injun on the snoop. Then, he stuck that double-barreled 12-gauge shot gun through the window of the coop. As he stared into the darkness, with a fox on his mind, our old hound dog, Rip, had done gone and woke up and comes sneaking up behind Daddy. Then, as we all looked on, plumb helpless, old Rip done went and stuck his cold nose in my Daddy’s crack!”

“Miss Russell, we all been cleanin’ chickens since three o’clock this mornin!”

I think you spelled “naked” incorrectly…

I think it should have been “nekkid”…

    Context is everything…!

It will be good, Book. That’s why we come back again and again.

DL Sly, I immediately forwarded your story to five friends. Thank you for reminding me that I have that many people in my life I feel safe sending a story like that to.

  • DL Sly

Mr. Martel, I’m so pleased you enjoyed the joke, it’s pretty much the cleanest one I know!

I found it funny as well.

Debbie does Dallas (just kidding) she does Denial 😉

Gretchen Carlson, FOX News: Unemployment has gone up precipitously since he took office.

Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, DNC Chair: That is simply not true. In fact, unemployment has now dropped below 9%. It’s continuing to drop. He’s been focused on —

Carlson: It’s higher than when they promised the stimulus would lower it to 8%.

Wasserman Schultz: You see, that narrative doesn’t work for you anymore, though, because —

Carlson: It’s not my narrative. I’m just talking about facts.

Wasserman Schultz: You just said the unemployment rate is going up since Obama took office, and it hasn’t.

Carlson: Is unemployment higher since President Obama took office?

Wasserman Schultz: What’s happened since President Obama took office —

Carlson: Is unemployment higher than when he took office?

Wasserman Schultz: Unemployment is nearing right around where it was when President Obama took office and it’s dropping. You just said it’s been increasing and that’s not true.

    Jan. 2009

The unemployment rate, meanwhile, jumped to a 16-year-high of 7.2 percent, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported on Friday. The growing army of the unemployed, at 11.1 million, is nearly 50 percent bigger than at the start of the recession a year ago.

I think the Democrat’s goal is 50% unemployment. When only 50% of the population can be employed, and most of it is from government jobs, the political elite of DC will own all of you, lock, stock, and foundation.

Auld Lang Syne … sure it’s a bit early for the song, but remember the ‘good old days’ – not really good, more frustrating and maddening, until someone got voted off the island.
I was reading the linked article and the comments, when …. well, go see for yourself in the comment section.
