The Islamist War on children continues

Childhood is a modern construct.  Before the Victorian era, children were perceived as mini-adults, albeit with a higher mortality rate.  Since the early Victorian era, however, all Western nations have recognized and cultivated the special bond between a parent and a child and, more importantly for purposes of this post, the special responsibility society’s bear for these most vulnerable little people.  The Islamists, however, hark back to medieval ideologies that don’t view children as special little people who must be cultivated to create a better future.  They’re not entirely stupid, though.  While they may not feel a special obligation towards children, they recognize our unique modern weakness when our children are attacked and, for that reason, they’ve been especially aggressive in attacking children.  In other words our children are civilized society’s weak underbelly.  We don’t want them to die.

The most savage large scale attack, of course, was at Beslan.  The most fiendish small scale attack occurred recently, when terrorists in Iraq deliberately used two small children as props in a wired car, so that they could deceive American soldiers into believing the car was safe — only to blow it up at an opportune time, along with the children.  The most generic attack, the suicide bomber who tries to off as many children as possible as a useful byproduct of a bomb, took place again yesterday in Iraq, when a bomber attacked a school.

Fortunately for us (and if I were speaking here, my tone would be sarcastic), the Western media is on to the threat against the world’s children.  It comes from (hold your breath here, because this is going to be exciting) it comes from, yes, you know what I’m going to say, it comes from Christians.  Yup.  Terrorists may be blowing up children in great numbers, and may be positioning themselves to assault American’s children, but the real threat is those darn Christians.  Always good to know that we’ve got our priorities straight.
