Another report from San Francisco

No matter how the media tries to downplay or denigrate the tea parties, attendees were happy and inspired.  This report is from Gini David who, with her energy, enthusiasm and bone-deep friendliness, is an asset to any political movement:

Dear Friends + PATRIOTS,

The Tea Party Revolution has begun! And in San Francisco, of all places. (Then again, remember the anti-war movement gained steam in San Francisco in the 1960s.)

Under a beautiful blue sky, at least 1,000 people gathered peacefully at the Civic Center Plaza, within a stone’s throw of San Francisco’s gold-domed City Hall, to protest the government’s onerous economic policies, a crippling tripling of the deficit, and higher taxes.

Folks from all walks of life came to say “Enough is enough!” Businessmen, mothers with small children, college students, retirees, housewives–the full gamut of “right wing extremists” (just kidding!). Many wore tea bags fastened to their lapels and hats. Most carried flags and smart hand-painted signs. (Mine read CHAINS YOU WON’T BELIEVE (which made Channel 2’s B-roll), SPREAD THE POVERTY, and a crowd pleaser: DON’T TAX ME, BRO!)

After brief speeches and rallying cries by Melanie Morgan and Sally Zelikovsky (SF Tea Party Coordinator), we marched, amidst horns honking and “thumbs up” signs from motorists, to Princess Pelosi’s Palace a block away. There, Dana Walsh… who ran against Pelosi… spoke, followed by brief comments from other protesters, ranging from a 19-year-old student who said, “I’m embarrassed by who my generation has voted into office” to activists in their 80’s… more “right wing extremists” with tea bags dangling from their sunhats.

One of the most striking comments came from a woman in her 20s who had emigrated from Poland to the US, discovered the value of capitalism and economic freedom, and expressed simple, heartfelt regret at seeing the US slipping toward socialism.

In case you were wondering, I did see a fair number of reporters and photographers from the Chron, Examiner, KTVU, and ABC. It will be interesting to read the stories tomorrow.

But no matter how the MSM spins it, the Tax Day Tea Parties ARE a genuine and true grassroots movement that bubbled up without the financing and coordination of a party or a single person or a personality… a real sign that LIBERTY and the thirst for ECONMIC FREEDOM is alive and well in the United States of America.

Thank you to Sally Zelikovsky and Melanie Morgan for coordinating a terrific Tax Day Tea Party!

It was a great day to be an American… and here are a couple pics to prove it! [Sorry — I didn’t get the pics.] (That’s me and my new friend Kelley holding the DON’T TAX ME, BRO! sign).

See you at the next Tea Party!
