Regrouping

I am, as always, assiduously reading political news.  Every morning, compulsively, I check out mainstream papers (The Chron; the Times, both LA & NY; my local Marin IJ, etc.), as well as a ton of political blogs.  Most are conservative, some neutral (Jake Tapper) or ostensibly so (Politico).

Despite (or, perhaps, because of) all this reading, I have to admit to being confused.  Sure, Obama’s and the Democrats’ numbers are down, which ought to be good news all around, but that news is balanced out by reports saying that the Dems will use a lame duck strategy to pass everything in November and December; that Obama will still win a second term, partially because there are no good or, more accurately, attractive Republicans to run; that Israel can afford neither to attack Iran or to refrain from attacking Iran; that the economy is collapsing, which will kill the socialist state, but might take all of us with it; etc.

As you know, I’m someone who always struggles to find themes.  I like matched sets (or trios) and I like connecting the dots.  In other words, I love the epiphany when disparate strands of information suddenly align themselves and make sense.  Right now, nothing is making sense.

What I can’t figure out is whether the problem is my overwrought brain or the world/political scene itself.  Do you see trends, especially trends that have positive outcomes for things like freedom, the economy and national security?  Do you see strands of interconnected information that create an understandable pattern?  Or are you, like me, simply staring at the dots, waiting for enlightenment?
