Listening to conservative voters

Posted on November 10, 2006 by Bookworm

Head on over to the Captain’s Quarters if you want to participate in a straw poll that’s looking to identify conservative candidates for the 2008 election. FacebookTweet

The decline and fall of the British Empire

Posted on November 10, 2006 by Bookworm

Really, it’s no surprise that radical Islam is gaining traction in England when this is the type of intelligence the natives are demonstrating: A man was rushed to hospital in Britain with severe internal injuries after trying to launch a powerful firework from his bottom, an ambulance service spokesman said.

License to be an anti-Semite?

Posted on November 10, 2006 by Bookworm

Do you remember that, when Mel Gibson’s The Passion of the Christ was about to be released, liberals attacked it preemptively on the grounds that it would stir up anti-Semitic passions amongst its primitive viewers? Of course, nothing of the sort happened. Movie goers did not see the movie as

Sportsmanship

Posted on November 9, 2006 by Bookworm

I know I’m neither the first to notice or comment, but I still feel compelled to point out that, when Dems lose an election, they claim Republicans cheated.  When Republicans lose an election, they immediately try to figure out how to do better next time.  It’s a very different mindset.

Checkmate — the ugly Watergate legacy

Posted on November 9, 2006 by Bookworm

The movement is afoot — despite Pelosi’s claim that impeachment is not on the agenda, the rank and file is beginning to call for Bush’s impeachment (posts about this trend are here and here). It’s easy enough to lay the blame on Bush Derangement Syndrome, but I think the problem

Who am I?

Posted on November 8, 2006 by Bookworm

The funny thing is, I would have tested out Republican 15 years ago, when I was still voting Democrat! You Are 72% Republican You have a good deal of elephant running through your blood, and you’re proud to be conservative. You don’t fit every Republican stereotype, but you definitely belong

Uh-oh

Posted on November 8, 2006 by Bookworm

I’m not the fizzy drink type, but I do like my sweets. Now I can stop worrying about the election and start worrying about something else: People who drink large quantities of fizzy drinks or add sugar to coffee or tea run a higher risk of developing cancer of the

And now for the good news

Posted on November 8, 2006 by Bookworm

Despite the rout — and it is a rout — many conservative bloggers are finding reasons for cautious optimism. So, here’s my short round-up of why things aren’t so bad. Patrick, with a gracious nod in my direction (thank you!), takes us to Arthur Brooks and Dean Barnett, both of

Canards driving the electorate

Posted on November 8, 2006 by Bookworm

I want to address a couple of false beliefs that seem to have driven a lot of the electorate. One is the belief that the Founding Fathers, to ensure the balance of power, intended to create a system that would never see the same party dominate all three branches of

You shall know them by their bedfellows

Posted on November 8, 2006 by Bookworm

If nothing else confirmed me in my belief that I no longer have anything in common with the Democratic party, it’s the sounds of rejoicing from certain factions abroad.  The political bedfellows cheering  on the Democratic victory are a singularly distasteful, immoral, and dangerous group.  Those who vocally supported the Democrats

One thing we can expect

Posted on November 8, 2006 by Bookworm

The one thing we know is going to happen is that the Democrats are going to let the tax cuts die.  In the short term, this will be very, very, very, very painful.  In the long term, this one thing, more than anything, may be what it takes to move

I’m impressed by the hidden ball

Posted on November 7, 2006 by Bookworm

The San Francisco Chronicle uses the occasion of Jean-Claude La Marre’s new movie, “The Color of the Cross,” to reexamine the way in which Jesus’ race is shown in Western iconography. The movie is a good starting point for this discussion, because it has as its central character a black

Two must-read posts

Posted on November 7, 2006 by Bookworm

There are two posts I think you should read this election day, both at Cheat-Seeking Missiles.  Read this one about the despicable Keith Olbermann; then, read this one about rich men and our votes (and tax money). FacebookTweet
