The great orator flubbed the oath.
(By the way, another famous flubbing was Princess Di, when she bungled her husband’s name. Look how that marriage turned out.)
UPDATE: LGF says Roberts screwed up. I knew that the oath turned into “who’s on first” about halfway through, with confusion issuing from both mouths, but I thought that it was Obama who upset the rhythm in the first lines:
ROBERTS: Are you prepared to take the oath, Senator?
OBAMA: I am.
ROBERTS: I, Barack Hussein Obama…
OBAMA: I, Barack…
ROBERTS: … do solemnly swear…
OBAMA: I, Barack Hussein Obama, do solemnly swear…
It’s obvious watching the video that Roberts thought that he (Roberts) would say, “I, Barack Hussein Obama, do solemnly swear…” at which point Obama would echo him. I think it threw him that Obama cut in immediately after hearing his own name. That’s when I thought Obama messed up. The question then, is whether Obama was supposed to leap in when he did, or if he rushed the thing, throwing Roberts off his stride, and creating a mutual chain of errors.

Missed the oath! Had to take the poopy, I mean puppy, to the vet. Could someone kindly fill me in on how he flubbed it? Thanks.

No fan of O’s here, but it was Roberts that threw him off. Roberts misspoke the oath, Obama hesitated and they both tried to correct it.
Can you imagine if this how W started his term? Can you imagine the MSM not putting this on their front pages and op-ed pages the next three weeks?

As we all know, truth is an illusion and what matters is what people perceive. If people perceived that Obama flubbed it, then that would become truth. Just like when people perceive Bush to be dumb and Sarah Palin to be a religious fanatic.
We just don’t happen to use psychological warfare tools like that, so our Leftist buddies get to place their stamp on the battlefield of public perception without contest.
