The Bookworm Beat 12/30 — Lame Duck Quaking Edition

lame-duck-fuseNew Year’s Concern Trolling

Kurt Schlichter, concerned for the future well being of our nation’s lefties, has published Some New Years Resolutions For Our Progressive Pals.  Among his noteworthy suggestions:

Leverage Hollywood Star Power: As you know, all normal Americans believe Hollywood stars are powerful role models who we should emulate in our personal and political lives. Want to energize new voters? Well, those tatt-ridden, gangsta rap stars supporting Hillary sure made me want to bust a move – right into the voting booth to elect some Dems! And don’t forget to have Lena Dunham go out there to lecture us about her personal insights on politics and childcare. She’s America’s preeminent feminist icon – I know that pic of her lolling on a beach dressed as a manatee made me reconsider my standards of female beauty. After that, I’ll never again deploy my male gaze!

Progressive Governance

One of the theories regarding fifty sovereign states is that each gets to act as a laboratory, trying out laws and policies that they believe will best serve their state.  California, taking full advantage, is already on the highway to fiscal hell given their radical climate change agenda recently signed into law.  But now they have gone into true pathological altruism with their latest, a children’s bill of rights that invites all sorts of big government mischief on one hand, and worse by far, decriminalizing child prostitution.  While the law seems aimed at not disadvantaging children and teens with a permanent criminal record, the bill also limits the ability of police to detain child prostitutes.  Waiting for the law of unintended consequences to hit in 3…2….1…

 Obama’s Final Days

I’ve lived through several presidential transfers of power.  I have never seen anything like Obama’s efforts to undermine his successor during the transition:

President Obama has taken a number of unilateral actions in the waning days of his tenure that appear designed to box in President-elect Donald Trump.

Obama’s decision Thursday to sanction Russian entities for election-related hacking is just the latest obstacle he has placed in Trump’s way.

Days before the sanctions were unveiled, the Obama administration allowed the U.N. Security Council to condemn Israeli settlement activity — something that could have an indelible impact on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Obama has also permanently banned oil and gas drilling across large swaths of the Atlantic and Arctic oceans, closed off 1.6 million acres of Western land to development and scrapped the last vestiges of a registration system used largely on Muslim immigrants. . . .

What an arrogant and dangerous ass.

Israel

Ms. BWR has already discussed Obama’s craven betrayal of Israel.  Today, Charles Krauthammer discusses the ramifications of Obama’s betrayal:

Many people don’t quite understand the damage done to Israel by the U.S. abstention that permitted passage of a Security Council resolution condemning Israel over its settlements. The administration pretends this is nothing but a restatement of longstanding U.S. opposition to settlements.

Nonsense. For the last 35 years, every administration, including a reelection-seeking Obama himself in 2011, has protected Israel with the U.S. veto because such a Security Council resolution gives immense legal ammunition to every boycotter, anti-Semite, and zealous European prosecutor to penalize and punish Israelis. . . .
. . . .

The Temple Mount is the most sacred site in all of Judaism. That it should be declared foreign to the Jewish people is as if the Security Council declared Mecca and Medina to be territory to which Islam has no claim. Such is the Orwellian universe Israel inhabits.

It truly is horrendous.  I wonder what other surprises Obama has for Israel on or before January 20.  The only good thing that might come out of this is that I expect this will mark the beginning of the end of our involvement in the UN.

Progressive White Male Guilt

Ann Althouse, reacting to the PC police, entitles her post Why Trump Won.

Because a man like Steve Martin won’t fight for himself in a situation like this:

On Tuesday, the comic wrote in a since-deleted tweet, “When I was a young man, Carrie Fisher was the most beautiful creature I had ever seen. She turned out to be witty and bright as well.”

Media outlets and fans immediately turned on the comedian saying Martin’s tweet had a sexist undertone.

Does Martin think this one appeasement will end the insane, pointless bullying? How could it? It doesn’t even save his ass today. By deleting, he confesses to a nonexistent political crime. . .

A similar incident occurred at the corporate level with Cinnabon’s clever tribute to Carrie Fisher. I have hope that 2017 will usher in a brave new world for the snowflakes and PC police.

Great Books

It’s finally here, just in time for 2017 and already number 1 on Amazon.  Milo’s new book, Dangerous.

milos-book

Acclaimed as the “alt-right’s greatest troll,” Milo recently explained the genesis of his book:

“I met with top execs at Simon & Schuster earlier in the year and spent half an hour trying to shock them with lewd jokes and outrageous opinions. I thought they were going to have me escorted from the building – but instead they offered me a wheelbarrow full of money.”

“Every line of attack the forces of political correctness try on me fails pathetically. I’m more powerful, more influential, and more fabulous than ever before,” he added. “This book is the moment Milo goes mainstream.”
